Abstract

A table has a work surface fixed to a frame which adjusts in height and can be made wide enough to fit round a chair. Because the work surface is supported at both sides enabling the frame to sit both sides of the chair, the chair and the person in the chair are not restricting any framework. <IMAGE>

Description

This invention relates to an adjustable chair table with a frame unrestricted by the chair.

Chair tables are widely used for people restricted to a chair or for convenience. These tables come in all shapes and sizes which comprise a work surface supported by a number of different frames. Most of these tables are small versions of the cantilever bed table.

However, these tables are unsatisfactory used at certain chairs also these tables require the person sitting at the chair to lift their feet to allow the frame of the table to be pushed up close to the chair.

According to the present invention there is provided a adjustable chair table comprising a work surface supported by a frame with means for adjustment.The frame supporting the work surface, supports the work surface at both sides allowing the frame to sit either side of the chair, to leave a completely unrestricted space underneath work surface.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the table with all parts.

Figure 2 shows the top frame of the table.

Figure 3 shows the bottom frames of the table with thumb screws and castors.

Figure 4 shows the table in position at a chair.

Referring to the drawings the table comprises a work surface 10 fixed to a top frame 11 the top frame 11 slots into the bottom frames 12a 12b and are secured and adjustable by way of thumb screws, hand wheels 13a 13b or similar means.

In order to adjust the table both thumb screws, hand wheels - 13a 13b or similar means will be removed one at a time,then aligned with one of a number of holes in the top frame 11. The thumb screws, hand wheels 13a 13b or similar means will enter one of the holes, depending on the desired height in the top frame 11 via a nut 14a 14b fixed to the bottom frames 12a 12b by weld or similar means, then tighten to secure.

The work surface 10 will be fixed to the top frame 11 by way of screws 15 or similar means.

The fitting of castors 16a 16b to the bottom frames 12a 12b by way of threaded stems and nut or similsr means are optional.

Claims (7)

Claims:

1. A chair table comprising a work surface and a frame to support the surface, the frame providing support at or adjacent opposing sides of the surface whereby an unrestricted space is available beneath the work surface.

2. A chair table according to Claim 1 comprising means for the adjustment of the height of the work surface.

3. A chair table according to Claim 2 wherein the frame comprises at least one set of two or more components telescopically slidable with respect to one another together with releasable locking means to lock the components in a required position.

4. A chair table according to Claim 3 wherein each of the components is provided with a series of through apertures, and fixings locatable through aligned pairs of the apertures to lock the components in position.

5. A chair table according to any of the preceding Claims wherein the frame is adapted to locate either side of a chair.

6. A chair table according to any of the preceding Claims wherein the frame is provided with castors.

7. A chair table substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
