Abstract
225,839. Fitzsimmons, W. A. Dec. 4, 1923, [Convention date]. Rolling; metal - sheet feeds. - Apparatus for conveying and delivering metal sheets from cold rolls, and applicable also to shears, bucklers, presses, stamping and like machines, comprises a travelling endless band carrying a number of electromagnets which are energized and de-energized automatically by the movement of the sheets. The conveyer frame 5 is secured at 7 and by a link 9 to the roll housing and is provided with pulleys 21, 19, the latter being driven from an electric motor 11 through spur gearing 13 and chain gearing 16. The pulleys are provided on opposite sides with conducting strips 20, 22, Figs. 3 and 4, and the belt 23 is fitted with correspondingly-spaced conductors connected to a series of electromagnets 26. A brush 27 connected to one side of an electric circuit is in permanent contact with the strip 22 while a second brush 28 is connected to a lever 30 having a roller 32 in the path of sheets travelling from the rolls 2 over fibre rollers 4 upon a table 3. In operation, as ,a sheet passes beneath the roller 32, the lever 30 is moved to bring the brush 28 against its contact strip thereby energizing the magnets which hold the sheet until it passes from beneath the roller 32 whereupon the lever 30 returns bv gravity, thus de-energizing the magnets and allowing the sheet to drop into a receptacle.
