Abstract

A method of cleaning woollen articles, particularly underwear, without using detergents, consists essentially in submitting the articles to a moist heat, immersing them successively in baths of dilute acid and alkali and then subjecting them to an oxidizing agent. A particular example comprises the following steps:-steaming for about ten minutes, rinsing in water at 100 DEG -120 DEG F., immersion in a bath acidified with hydrochloric acid, rinsing in warm water, immersion in a bath rendered alkaline with ammonia, rinsing in warm water, steaming for about ten minutes, immersion for an hour or two in a bath of 10 per cent hydrogen peroxide solution rendered alkaline with ammonia.
