Abstract

A hoist is provided enabling people, especially elderly people and invalids, to enter and leave baths, beds and the like conveniently. The hoist comprises a passenger seat of hammock or bucket form which can be raised and lowered in a controlled manner by an electric motor via a cable system between the motor and the seat and including a seat hanger. The motor is located in a track system and the seat can be provided with horizontal movements in mutually right-angled directions, the track system being adapted for support by the ceiling of building. An insulated remote-control is preferably provided for the electric motor. <IMAGE>

Description

Our design of this hoist is made up two primary tracks on the ceiling to give forward and backward movement.
The secondary track is to give side movement as seen on plans. I then put a steel plate on the track wheels for side movement and to hold motor and lifting basket for passengers.
A 24 volt electrical motor with all cut-outs, low speed lifting and height trip. The hoist is fitted with a fully insulated control unit so that it can easily be operated by one person whilst putting a patient into either a bath, pool or bed. Please see enclosed.

Claims (11)

Claims
1. A passenger hoist for use at a swimming pool, bath, sleeping accommodation or other location, said hoist comprising support means for a passenger or patient, drive means for raising and lowering said support means, and track means for the drive means adapted to provide horizontal movements of the support means.
2. A hoist as claimed in claim 1, wherein the track means comprises a primary track, a secondary track carried by the primary track so as to be moveable in a first directional path, and a mounting for the drive means carried by the secondary track so as to be moveable in a second path at right angles to said first path.
3. A hoist as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the drive means comprises a pulley-and-cable system, and an electric motor to drive the system.
4. A hoist as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a remote control unit is provided for the drive means.
5. A hoist as claimed in claim 4, wherein said control unit is insulated.
6. A hoist as claimed in claim 2, wherein the primary and secondary tracks carry respective sets of runner members carrying the secondary track and the mounting for the drive means respectively.
7. A hoist as claimed in claim 2 or 6, wherein the primary track is adapted to be carried by the ceiling of a building.
8. A hoist as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the passenger support means comprises a seat of hammock or bucket form carried by a hanger device.
9. A hoist as claimed in claim 2, wherein the tracks are of box form construction.
10. A hoist as claimed in claim 3, wherein the electric motor is provided with appropriate cut-outs, a low speed lifting control and a height trip.
11. A passenger hoist substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
