Description
A MOUNTING DEVICE
The present invention refers to a mounting aid in the form of a rigid mounting disc, hereinafter referred to as a mounting device, intended to be used when specially adapted details shall be mounted as wall or roof channels in a material, which is so thin, that it is unsuited for direct fitting.
The invention can be applied in a number of different fields, such as house building, ship building, vehicle building and machine building, and in other fields. New materials, which are often cheaper and better suited for their main purpose, continuosly occur in the industrialized world of today. For certain sealing purposes it thus has been provided ever thinner structures. When through-channels shall be made in such structures, which are often highly unsuited as backings for nail joints, screw joints and rivet joints, it therefore arises problems regarding fitting as well as regarding sealing.
The purpose of the present invention therefore has been in the best technical and economical manner also at through-channels to utilize the good properties of new, thin and cheap sealing materials at a minimum of additional work. This is particularly true in that the overall mounting work, due to the invention, may be made from one working position only, completely on one side of the sealing layer.
The advantages are that it is possible, with only one simple, cheap detail, to replace earlier necessary and often bulky, complex and- expensive lintel-/reinforcing materials, and furthermore to minimize the time required for preparing the throughchannel. It furthermore is possible to work in a better ergonomical situation than was earlier possible.
The design, the methods of mounting and use of the invention are evident from the following description which refers to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. A is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the mounting device according to the invention,
Fig. B is a perspective view corresponding to Fig. A with the mounting disc in a position ready for inserting through an opening, and
Fig. C shows the mounting device positioned in the opening.
The dominant flat and annular surface or disc 1 of the mounting device shown in Fig. A is provided along its entire external periphery Dy with a bent-down, reinforcing flange 2 extending at right angle to the plane of the disc. The inner periphery di of the flat and annular disc along certain parts on one hand has a perpendicularly bent-up guiding edge 3, and on the other hand two different kinds of tabs extending in the plane of the surface: two guiding tabs 4 and four more slender and therefore bendable folding tabs 51. The dominant flat and annular disc has been equipped with a number of fitting members 6, e.g. holes intended to receive sheeting screws. The entire annular structure finally has been slotted with a radial slot 7 provided in common to all surfaces and provided in the flange 2 at an angle a against the plane of the flat, annular disc.
In Fig. B is shown how the mounting device has just been prepared for application in the opening (8c in Fig. C) made in the thin surface material (9c in Fig. C). This preparation is made by lifting one part 10 of the annular mounting device on one side of the slot 7 in relation to the other part 11 thereof. Thereby is obtained an opening 12, which allows the mounting device to be inserted and "screwed" through the opening.
Fig. C finally shows how the mounting device has been positioned in the opening in the thin surface material. The location and correct position of the mounting device is indicated by the guiding edge 3 entering in the opening. By bending of the folding tabs 51 52, the mounting device thus is affixed to the surface material.
In this position it is now possible, via the centrum hole 13 in the mounting device to make a through-channel in the thin sealing layer with a specially designed mounting detail. The profile of the guiding tabs 4 and their mutual positions thereby require a correspondence with the corresponding recesses in the associated through-channel detail. Having a position between the guiding tabs 4 and the fitting members 6 of the mounting disc corresponding to the recesses and fitting means of the throughchannel device, the fitting means will be guided correctly against the corresponding fitting members, which are hidden by the sealing layer, but anyhow situated on the opposite side thereof. The joining and a possible sealing function may be made by aid of the mounting device according to the invention located between the thin surface material and the associated throughchannel detail.
Thus is is seen that the device acts as a fitting counterstay for mounting of a detail. The mounting device is preferably made of sheet metal.
Claims (5)
1. A mounting device for use as a fitting counterstay at mounting of a detail, and which projects through an opening (8c) in a thin surface material (9c) which due to its small thickness lacks carrying capacity against surface pressure and sufficient strength for being able to receive and hold mounting means for the detail, the mounting device being constituted by a flat, annular disc (1), preferably made from sheet metal, and having an internal diameter (di) substantially equal in use to the diameter of the opening in the surface material, the annular disc having a slot (7) allowing the disc to be rotated through the opening, the flat, annular disc at its external circumference being provided with a circumferential flange (2), preferably substantially perpendicular to the plane of the disc, and the slot extending radially through the flat, annular disc, and from its outer periphery through the flange at an acute angle to the flat disc.
2. A mounting device as claimed in claim 1, and having in the flat, annular disc (1), fitting means (6) spaced apart at the same mutual spaces as corresponding fitting means in the detail to be mounted, the flat, annular disc along its internal circumference being provided with guiding tabs (4) arranged to cooperate with corresponding recesses in the detail to be mounted, and positioned at the same relative position to the fitting means as the recesses to the fitting means.
3. A mounting device as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the flat, annular disc (1) has at its internal circumference bendable folding tabs arranged to be folded (5 for temporary retention of the mounting device at the surface material
4. A mounting device substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
5. The use of a mounting device as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4 as a fitting counterstay at mounting of a detail, and which projects through an opening in a thin surface material which due to its small thickness lacks carrying capacity against surface pressure and sufficient strength for being able to receive and hold mounting means for the detail.
