Abstract

In use main body 10 levels the sand or mortar as tube 17 is moved back and forth on the previously laid adjacent slab. The height of the main body relative to the adjusting tube 17 is determined by bolts passing through holes in main body 10 and elongated holes 16 in adjusting tube 17. <IMAGE>

Description

PATIO SLAB LAYING TOOL This Invention Relates To a Slab Laying Tool.
The laying of paving slabs is some what of a hit and miss affair as a flat base is required and is normally done by eye which is not very satisfactory as time and time again one needs to lift the slab in order to acheive the correct level of sand or morter, the patio slab laying tool will leave a flat and level base therefore taking most of the hard work out of slab laying.
Tools required for slab laying are normally a spirit level, trowel, and large rubber hammer. Most of these tools would not be required with a patio slab laying tool and the invention not only leaves a flat base of sand or morter but also keeps and checks the previous slab for eveness.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the slab laying tool fully made up and ready to operate.
Figure 2 illustrates the tool in operation showing the sand or morter being leveled and the ajusting tube 17 resting on the previous slab.12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, are not shown Figure 3 shows the main body 10 and the ajusting tube 17 separated to reveal three holes 18 to allow bolts to pass through in order to lock the ajusting tube 17 to the required hieght (bolts not shown) the counter sunk holes 19 are to allow the bolt heads of the handel 12 to enter the main body 10 so as not to interfere with the up and down ajustment of the ajusting tube 17.
Referring to the drawing Fig 1 there is a metal plate 14 fixed to the base of the main body 10 to stop any wear of the main body 10, a plastic strip 15 is fixed to the base of the ajusting tube 17 to stop any marking of the slab by the forward and backwqrlmotion of the patio slab laying tool. The built in spirit level 13 is used to check that the previous slab is level and that the tool its self is level while in use.
To ajust the hieght and therefore the amount of sand on morter and for different thickness of slab it is necessary to undo the locking bolts (not shown) on the ajusting tube 17 and slide 17 up or down by means of the elongated holes 16 once the required hieght is achieved sighten the locking bolts up. To fit the ajusting tube 17 to the main body 10 slide the 17 over 10 insert the locking bolts.

Claims (1)

1 Patio slab laying tool comprising of too main parts which are fixed together by means of sliding an oblong tube over the main body and securing by bolts to insure the simplicity of manufacture 2 A patio slab laying tool take the guess work out of slab laying by virture of its design 3 A patio slab laying tool elliminates the need for other tools which in total would be more expensive 4 A patio slab laying tool can be used as a conventional spirit level 5 A patio slab laying tool would save money due to the speed in which one can lay slabs compared with the conventional way 6 A patio slab laying tool can be used "By taking the ajusting tube off" and using as a morter or concrete float.
