Abstract

A portable electric razor has a housing 11 for a motor 16 driven by replaceable batteries 14, and rotating a cutter blade 19 in a cap 20 which is continuously convexly curved about two orthogonal axes. This shape and the choice of dimensions enable the razor to cut hair in the ear, or eyebrows. <IMAGE>

Description

ELECTRIC RAZORS This invention relates to electric razors.
According to one aspect of this invention an electric razor has an operating end comprising an outer portion which is continuously convexly curved outwards about two transverse axes.
According to another aspect of this invention an electric razor has a cutting blade rotated by a motor.
The outer portion may be part-oval.
The blade may be shaped in a continuous curve.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a perspective view of a portable electric razor 10 which has a hollow housing or body 11 having a portion 12, arranged for holding in a user's hand, and an operative end 13. The portion 12 houses electric batteries 14 which are replaceable through a removable end 15, or through a removable side portion, and are arranged to drive an electric motor 16 under the control of an on/off switch 17. The motor 16 has a rotary output shaft 18 arranged to rotate a cutting blade 19 Just inside a perforated sheet cap 20 which is removably screwed on to the end 21 of the casing 11.
The cap 20 is part-oval and the blade 19 is arcuate and shaped in a continuous curve and has ends 22 secured to a central support 23 connected to the shaft 18.
The size of the cap or head 20 can be varied but preferably is of a size to enable the razor to remove hair from in or around ears and eyebrows.
The cap 20 is continuously curved convex outwards about two transverse orthogonal axes so as to be part egg-shaped in its operating area thus avoiding sharp corners. The cap may for example be of stainless steel and the casing of hard plastics. A small brush may be provided to assist in removing cut hair.
The head or cap 20 could be i inch (1.25 cm) long and + inch (0.7 cm) wide. The motor may rotate the cutter at a uniform speed or a user-operated speed adjusting control could be provided as indicated at 17a for varying the electric supply to the motor.
In a modification the motor is driven from the electric mains.

Claims (8)

1. An electric razor having an operating end comprising an outer portion which is continuously convexly curved outwards about two transverse axes.
2. An electric razor as claimed in Claim 19 in which the outer portion is part-oval.
3. An electric razor as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, having a cutting blade rotated by a motor.
4. An electric razor as claimed in Claim 3, in which the blade is shaped in a continuous curve.
5. An electric razor as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the axes are orthogonal.
6. An electric razor substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
7. An electric razor having a cutting blade rotated by a motor.
8. An electric razor however defined.
