Abstract

Skirting board has a back part 4 which can be secured to the wall, and a front part 5 which is connected to it by a sprung hinge 2 so that when the skirting is fixed to the wall, the fixing is covered, and the space between front and back parts is covered and can be used to conceal wires, small pipework and the like. A bottom part may also be provided with means to firmly secure a floor covering. <IMAGE>

Description

SPRUNG SKII1NG BOAT This invention relates to sprung skirting board.
Skirting board is a building material used to trim between the base of a roan wall and the adjacent floor.
According to the present invention there is provided a skirting board with a back part capable of being secured to the wall and a sprung front part which rests on the floor or flooring material.
The construction permits a space which is readily accessible for routing concealed wiring and small pipework. The skirting can also incorporate a device to grip carpet.
A specific embodiment of the invention will nw be described by way of exale with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:fig.l shows a side elevation of a section of skirting fig 2 shows a front elevation of a section of skirting fig 3 shows a perspective of a section of skirting fig 4 shows side elevations of two variants incorporating a means of securing flooring material.
Referring to the drawing, the skirting board comprises a back (4) and a front (5) connected via a sprung hinge (2). Holes are situated in the backplate (1) to facilitate fixing to the wall.
In order to use the skirting, the front plate (5) is lifted whilst the back plate (4) is fixed to the wall.
The flooring material can then be abutted to the backplate and the front plate allowed to spring down onto it In order to provide firm fixing for floor coverings, a bottom piece (7) may be provided with either a steel grip (3) or a moulded trap (6) to secure the edge of the floor covering, as shown in figures 4a and 4b.

Claims (5)

1. Skirting board consisting of a back part and a front part, connected by a sprung hinge permitting the front part to be lifted when the back part is secured to the wall.
2. Skirting board as claimed in claim 1, having a bottan part with means for securing flooring material.
3. Skirting board as claimed in claim 2, having a space inside for routing of cables and small pipework.
4. Skirting board as claimed in claims 1-3, manufactured in a one piece moulding fram elastic or pliable material.
5. Skirting board substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
