Abstract
A shower tray 10 has a groove or channel 13 in at least one outer edge 12 thereof, which groove or channel is suitable for receiving a continuous floor-covering 14 such as carpet, linoleum or vinyl floor-covering.
Description
SHOWER TRAY
The present invention relates to a shower tray, particularly a shower tray for use with continuous floor covering.
It is a common problem in shower-rooms or bathrooms, preventing the floorcovering, be it carpet, linoleum or other covering, from lifting and curling up (Figure3) 3) around the edges when it becomes wet, as it invariably does.
Hitherto, the only solution has been to lay the floor-covering first and install the shower tray on top of the floor-covering. Whilst this is generally successful, it means that the shower tray must be removed if the floor-covering is to be replaced. Furthermore, in certain circumstances it is preferable to inset the shower tray into the floor, particularly to create a level-access shower for a disabled person. It would not then be possible to lay the floor-covering under the shower tray.
The present invention seeks to address this problem by providing a shower tray having a groove or channel provided along at least one edge thereof.
Preferably, the groove or channel is provided along all edges of the shower tray.
The above and other aspects of the present invention will now be illustrated in further detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 illustrates an embodiment of a shower tray in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 illustrates in greater detail the embodiment of Figure 1 in combination with a floor-covering; and
Figure 3 illustrates the problem to be addressed by the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a shower tray generally at 10 inset into a concrete floor 15 to reduce the access height of the tray. The shower tray is of generally conventional construction and may be moulded from a glassfibre-reinforced plastics material or other material. Running around the outer edges 11,12 of the shower tray is a groove or channel 13 into which, in use, a floor-covering 14 is received.
The floor covering may be retained in the groove or channel 13 simply by virtue of the dimensions of the channel, or with the addition of a conventional adhesive in the channel and preferably under the floor-covering adjacent the shower tray.
The simplicity of the present invention is such that many modifications beyond that illustrated in the Figures will be apparent. For example, although illustrated with channel 13 extending into the body of the tray perpendicularly to the edge of the tray, alternative inclinations will be equally or more appropriate in certain circumstances.
The present invention also encompasses a method of overcoming the problem discussed above, the method comprising forming a groove or channel in the outer edge wall of the shower tray.
Claims (4)
1. A shower tray having a groove or channel in at least one outer edge thereof.
2. A shower tray as claimed in Claim 1 having a groove or channel running
along each outer edge thereof.
3. A shower tray substantially as herein described with reference to the
accompanying Figures 1 and 2.
4. A method of preventing a floor-covering adjacent a shower tray from curling
or lifting, the method comprising forming a groove or channel in at least one
edge of the shower tray and engaging the edge of the floor-covering in the
groove or channel.
