Wire strainers.-In a lever-tool for securing looped wire straps or ties on bales, boxes, packing cases &c. of the type described in Specification 182,806, in which means are provided for engaging the loop, for gripping and tensioning the free end of the wire after passing through the loop and through a slot in a rotary twisting member, and for cutting off the free end of the wire, and in which the body is rocked over after tensioning and prior to twisting so that the wire round the bale adjacent the loop also enters the slot in the twisting member, the axis of the twisting member h is set at an obtuse angle to the axis of the gear wheel j which drives it, so that the cutter l carried by the wheel is carried clear of the wire. passing round the bale.
