Abstract

A pictorial puzzle, game or greetings card, Fig. 3 (not shown) comprises a backing sheet and a plurality of removable pieces adapted to adhere thereto or to be retained thereon. The pieces may be retained by friction, magnetism, releasable adhesion, surface adhesion or hook and loop fastening means. The game may be ludo, chess, backgammon or scrabble. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Pictorial puzzles and games The present invention concerns multi-piece pictorial puzzles or games.
An object of the present invention is to provide a multi-piece pictorial puzzle adapted to be assembled on a backing or support sheet which, when the pieces are assembled on the backing sheet will not be displaced therefrom unless individually removed by hand or the like.
According to the present invention there is provided a backing or supporting sheet and a plurality of removable pieces adapted to adhere thereto or be retained thereon by retaining means such as releasable adhesion, surface adhesion, mechanical engagement, friction or magnetic means and being marked and/or printed and/or coloured and assemblable to form a picture when correctly assembled.
In one embodiment of the invention a backing sheet is magnetized and has a frame member permanently attached around its periphery. A plurality of pieces of ferromagnetic material can then be assembled on the backing or supporting sheet and if they are in the correct order a picture will emerge since the removable pieces have parts or portions of the overall picture thereon. The resultant assembly can be hung vertically and the picture will remain because of the magnetic effect.
The backing sheet can be formed as the front of a greetings or other card. It will be appreciated that the backing sheet and/or removable pieces are magnetised or the sheet or pieces are magnetised and the pieces sheet of ferromagnetic material.
In another embodiment of the invention the magnetised backing sheet can be in the form of a board for playing a game such as ludo, chess, backgammon, scrabble or the like and the movable pieces can have the opposite polarity. This embodiment is useful for travelling board games.
As an alternative to the magnetized component parts, frictional adherence or mechanical engagement is envisaged, for example the two components can be made from sheets of material with releasably interengageable hook and loop fastening means such as "VELCRO" (RTM) fabric, the backing of the board and of the pieces being covered with a more rigid material.
Both the board and the movable pieces can have waterproof surfaces.
An example of the picture puzzle is shown in the attached representations. Fig. 1 showing the assembled square pieces and Fig. 2 showing the picture in the process of being assembled on the backing sheet which has a permanent frame member. Fig. 3 shows the backing sheet as part of a greetings card.
1. A multi-piece pictorial puzzle or game comprising a backing or supporting sheet and a plurality of removable pieces adapted to adhere thereto by friction or magnetic means.
2. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1, in which the pieces are retained on the backing sheet by releasable adhesion, surface adhesion or mechanical engagement.
3. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the pieces are marked and/or printed and/or coloured.
4. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the backing sheet is magnetized and has a frame member permanently attached around its periphery.
5. A puzzle or game as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the backing sheet is formed into the front of a greetings card.
6. A puzzle or game as claimed in any of claimed 1 to 4, in which the backing sheet is in the form of a board for playing a game.
7. A multi-piece pictorial puzzle or game substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in any one of the Figs. of the accompanying drawings.

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. SPECIFICATION Pictorial puzzles and games The present invention concerns multi-piece pictorial puzzles or games. An object of the present invention is to provide a multi-piece pictorial puzzle adapted to be assembled on a backing or support sheet which, when the pieces are assembled on the backing sheet will not be displaced therefrom unless individually removed by hand or the like. According to the present invention there is provided a backing or supporting sheet and a plurality of removable pieces adapted to adhere thereto or be retained thereon by retaining means such as releasable adhesion, surface adhesion, mechanical engagement, friction or magnetic means and being marked and/or printed and/or coloured and assemblable to form a picture when correctly assembled. In one embodiment of the invention a backing sheet is magnetized and has a frame member permanently attached around its periphery. A plurality of pieces of ferromagnetic material can then be assembled on the backing or supporting sheet and if they are in the correct order a picture will emerge since the removable pieces have parts or portions of the overall picture thereon. The resultant assembly can be hung vertically and the picture will remain because of the magnetic effect. The backing sheet can be formed as the front of a greetings or other card. It will be appreciated that the backing sheet and/or removable pieces are magnetised or the sheet or pieces are magnetised and the pieces sheet of ferromagnetic material. In another embodiment of the invention the magnetised backing sheet can be in the form of a board for playing a game such as ludo, chess, backgammon, scrabble or the like and the movable pieces can have the opposite polarity. This embodiment is useful for travelling board games. As an alternative to the magnetized component parts, frictional adherence or mechanical engagement is envisaged, for example the two components can be made from sheets of material with releasably interengageable hook and loop fastening means such as "VELCRO" (RTM) fabric, the backing of the board and of the pieces being covered with a more rigid material. 1. A multi-piece pictorial puzzle or game comprising a backing or supporting sheet and a plurality of removable pieces adapted to adhere thereto by friction or magnetic means.
2. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1, in which the pieces are retained on the backing sheet by releasable adhesion, surface adhesion or mechanical engagement.
3. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1 or 2, in which the pieces are marked and/or printed and/or coloured.
4. A puzzle or game as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, in which the backing sheet is magnetized and has a frame member permanently attached around its periphery.
5. A puzzle or game as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the backing sheet is formed into the front of a greetings card.
6. A puzzle or game as claimed in any of claimed 1 to 4, in which the backing sheet is in the form of a board for playing a game.
7. A multi-piece pictorial puzzle or game substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in any one of the Figs. of the accompanying drawings.
