Description
SPECIFICATION
Locking latches for drain rod locking ferrules
This invention relates to an improved pivot pin arrangement for locking latches to be applied to Patent Application No 8609828 filed 22nd
April 1986 for Drain Rod Locking Ferrule. According to the present invention only one pivot point is required for the two locking latches.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :
Figure 1 shows the male ferrule located into the female ferrule and in the locked position.
Figure 2 shows the two latches with a three quarter view from the rear.
Referring to the drawing fig. 2 shows the latches in position, each latch is identical in shape and dimensions, when offered together as shown Fig. 2 the half lap arrangement Fig.
2 - 4 allows for the same overall width of the latches, the hole Fig. 2 - 3 to accept the pivot pin.
Fig. 1 shows the female ferrule - 4 and the male ferrule - 5 The latches are spring loaded - 6, pivot hole - 3 and the points for compressing the latches to release -1 and 2. The shoulders adjacent the pivot Fig. 2 - 5 to be radiussed to allow for free up and down movement.
The latches, as with the previous application to be manufactured in Plastic, Metal and none ferrous metal.
The invention simplifies the construction and assembly of the two locking latches.
The half lap arrangement allows for no increase in total width when the two latches are assembled.
Only one pivot point is required to allow the function of the two latches.
1. A spring loaded Locking latch mechanism for a drain rod locking ferrule, comprising two identical latches operating in an opposing mode.
2. A spring loaded locking latch mechanism as claimed in claim 1. wherein the swivel pin shoulder is half the total thickness of the latch.
3. A spring loaded locking latch mechanism as claimed in claim 2. wherein the two latches assembled in an opposing mode requires only one swivel pin hole to function.
4. A spring loaded locking latch mechanism as claimed in claim 2 and 3 wherein the half lap arrangement of the swivel pin shoulders allows for the two latches to be assembled and only accommodate the width of one latch.
