Abstract

An adjustable Profile Guide for use when constructing a wall which requires a window or door opening, consists of a braced metal frame with box section vertical side members 11 and telescopic top and bottom rails 12-13. The telescopic rails are provided with locking devices 14, to maintain the selected width dimension during use and to facilitate removal of the frame on completion of the brickwork. The vertical side members 11, may be extended by means of interlocking sleeves 15. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Adjustable profile guide for window and door openings in brickwork This invention relates to a reusable, adjustable Profile Guide for use when constructing window and door openings in brickwork.
When building a wall which requires an opening in the brickwork to accommodate a window or door frame, the normal procedures adopted during construction are: (a) use the new window or door frame as a guide, or (b) erect a temporary frame made from timber on site, or (c) build without a guide which necessitates constant checking to ensure the brickwork is square and plumb and of the correct dimensions.
In the case of (a), the use of the new frame leaves it open to damage on site during builiding. In the case of (b), a temporary frame constructed on site is prone to distortion, whether it be from lack of bracing, the use of timer of insufficient cross-section or warping due to the weather. In the case of (c), the craftmanship must be of the highest order to ensure a snug fit for the final fixing of the window/door frame.
According to the present invention, there is provided a reusable metal frame securely braced so that it remains square and true throughout it's life. The vertical side members of the frame are constructed of box section metal, capable of being extended vertically by a limited amount by means of a metal sleeve, of the same cross-section as the side member; the sleeve having a square metal insert secured to it which locates into the frame vertical. The top and bottom rails of the frame are telescopic tubular metal capable of any width adjustment within maximum and minimum limits determined by the length of the tubes. A locking device is provided on both top and bottom rails to ensure the selected width measurement is maintained throughout buiiding operations and to facilitate easy removal of the frame on completion of the brickwork.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the complete Profile Guide with one vertical side extension in position.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the Profile Guide illustrating the components.
Figure 3 illustrates the Profile Guide in use in a partially contructed wall.
Referring to the drawing, the Profile Guide comprises of a metal frame braced at each corner with metal bars 10. The vertical side members 11 are of metal box section which present a flat surface at either side of the frame to build the brickwork up to. The top and bottom rails of the frame are in two parts forming a telescopic arrangement wherein tube 12 locates into and slides within tube 13. A locking device 14 consisting of a threaded bolt is provided which locates through a threaded block on tubes 13 on both top and bottom rails, when tightened, the bolts bear onto tubes 12 to prevent lateral movement during use. In order to extend the frame vertically, there may be provided a sleeve 15 of the same size box section as the vertical side member 11, this sleeve having a square metal insert permanently secured to it which locates into vertical side member 11 when required.
1. An adjustable Profile Guide for use when constructing a brick wall which requires a window or door opening, consisting of a metal frame capable of width adjustment by means of telescopic top and bottom rails.
2. An adjustable Profile Guide as in Claim 1, whereon locking devices are provided on the top and bottom rails to prevent lateral movement and subsequent loss of dimension during use.
3. An adjustable Profile Guide as in Claim 1, wherein the locking devices provided on the top and bottom rails as in Claims 2, are used to facilitate removal of the frame on completion of the brickwork.
4. An adjustable Profile Guide as Claimed in Claims 1 to 3, whereon provision is made for height adjustment by means of an interlocking sleeve on the vertical side members of the frame.
5. An adjustable Profile Guide substantially as described herein with reference to Figs.
1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
