Abstract
219,559. Cappellen, T. A. van Nov. 12, 1923. Starting; reversing.-For starting in either direction, the starting air valve 1 is actuated through a spindle 11 having a roller 14 which can be brought, into position for actuation by a forward or a reverse cam on the shaft 19 by turning the spindle 11 about its axis. During normal running, the roller 14 is between the cams and is not actuated. As shown, the spindle 11 is at right-angles to the valve spindle 4, which is actuated through a lever 8, but the spindles 4, 11 may be in alignment. The spindle 11 is turned by means of a rack 16 acting upon a toothed flange 15, and a single rack may be arranged to adjust spindles serving for the air valves of a number of cylinders. The cams may be on either side of a crank which actuates a fuel pump.
