Abstract

Better opening results and a longer life are obtained for the opener roll 1 in that the opener elements consist of needles (9) and at least one helical saw-tooth wire (5) having teeth 6. The needles (9) are arranged for example in the helical interspaces of the saw-tooth wire (5), of which at least one is provided and are themselves helically arranged. The needles 9 can be varied in size, shape and height. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Opener roll for a spinning machine The invention relates to an opener roll with opener elements distributed over the circumference, for a spinning mschine which works a fibre lap opened into individual fibres.
Opener rolls are known which either comprise needles on their circumference or are fitted with a saw-tooth wire. Both types of opener roll-according to yarn quality and spinning box formation-have not only advantages but also disadvantages.
The advantage of the needle roll resides for example in that by reason of the round needle form and the smooth surface, a protective opening can be achieved. It is also known that needle rolls remain serviceable longer than do saw-tooth rolls.
However one of the disadvantages of the needle rolls consists in that due to the inherent nature of the needle form and due to the smooth surface of the needles, proportions of good fibres can arrive to an increased extent in the dirt collector of the spinning box.
The advantage of the saw-tooth roll consists in that on account of the angular tooth structure a thorough fibre opening takes place.
Proportions of good fibres adhere to the angular teeth better than is the case with the needle rolls. Therefore less good fibres arrive in the dirt collector.
However in the case of saw-tooth rolls the higher wear-susceptibility of the saw-teeth is disadvantageous. A further disadvantage of the saw-tooth wire consists in that there are no possibilities of variation as regards the altering of the tooth form over the circumference of the opener roll.
The invention is based upon the problem of producing an opener roll which has less disadvantages than the known opener rolls, effects a good, low-loss opening and is suitable for wide-band use as regards fibre material to be worked.
According to the invention this problem is solved in that the opener elements consist of needles and of at least one saw-tooth wire of screw thread form.
Such an opener roll combines the advantages of a needle roll with those of a sawtooth roll.
In further development of the invention the needles are arranged in the helical interspaces of the saw-tooth wire, at least one of which is provided. In this case they can themselves be arranged in helical form.
In further development of the invention the needles are adapted, as regards needle arrangement, needle spacing, needle height, needle diameter, needle form and angle of inclination to the existing spinning conditions, while the saw-tooth wire forms a basic arrangement of type of the opener roll.
The spinning conditions include the selected drafting the selected yarn twist, the selected spinning speed, the opening speed, the nature and thickness of the supplied fibre lap, climatic conditions and others.
It is now no longer necessary to adapt the saw-tooth wire appropriately in each case, at most a few basic types of saw-tooth wire should be provided and kept in stock.
The invention has brought the surprising effect that the susceptibility of the saw-teeth to wear is considerably lower due to the simultaneous presence of the needles. The opening takes place in a more protective manner and the opener roll remains serviceable linger.
An example of embodiment of the invention is represented in the drawing. The invention will be described and explained in greater detail by reference to this example of embodiment.
FIGURE 1 shows the lateral elevation of an opener roll on an enlarged scale.
FIGURE 2 shows a part of the opener roll in a sectional representation.
In FIGURE 3 the detail designated by x in Figure 1 is represented enlarged in section.
The opener roll designated as a whole by 1 possesses a basic body 2 which is formed as a cylinder provided with flanges 3, 4 of circular disc type. Into the cylinder 2, consisting for example of light metal, there is milled a groove 4 of screw thread form, into which a saw-tooth wire 5 of hardened steel is inserted and then wedged with the basic body 2. The teeth of the saw-tooth wire, which are visible especially in Figure 2, are designated by 6.
They have a slight inclination in the direction 7 of running of the opener roll 1, which rotates about the axis 8.
The needles 9 are arranged in the helical interspaces of the saw-tooth wire 5, themselves in helical arrangement, as shown especially by Figure 1.
Figure 2 shows that the needles 9 too have a slight inclination in the direction 7 of running.
According to Figure 3 the needles 9 are so arranged in relation to the saw-tooth wire 5 that the helical line of alignment of the tips of the teeth 6 is approximately equidistant from the helical line of alignment of the tips of the needles 9.
By reference to the drawings it becomes clear that, the bores 10 which receive the needles 9 being retained, there are possibilities of adaptation to spinning conditions solely by variations of the needle tips. The needle tips can be made longer or shorter, they can be slimmer or fatter, they can also be rounded off more or less. Further possibilities of variation are given by variation of the bores 10 as regards their direction, their diameter and their distance from the groove 4, to name only a few possibilities of variation.
It is clear that, while retaining the saw-tooth wire, there are different possibilities of adaptation to spinning conditions and desired spinning results, for the needles.

Claims (5)

1. Opener roll with opener elements distributed over the circumference, for a spinning machine which works a fibre lap opened into individual fibres, characterised in that the opener elements consist of needles (9) and at least one saw-tooth wire (5) of screw thread form.
2. Opener roll according to Claim 1, characterised in that the needles (9) are arranged in the helical interspaces of the saw-tooth wire (5), of which at least one is provided.
3. Opener roll according to Claim 2, characterised in that the needles (9) themselves are arranged in helical arrangement.
4. Opener roll according to one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the needles (9) are adapted, as regards needle arrangement, needle interval, needle height, needle diameter, needle form, and angle of inclination to the existing spinning conditions, while the sawtooth wire (5) forms a basic arrangement of type of the opener roll (1).
5. An Opener roll as claimed in Claim 1, substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawing.
