Abstract

An anchoring device comprising a bolt defined by an elongate member having at one end a head 12 and at the other end a thread 13 extending towards the head. A flexible sleeve 14 is slotted over the elongate member and extends from the head to a distance partially covering the thread. The sleeve 14 and the head 12 are of substantially the same outside diameter, and a nut 15 is provided whereby when part or all of the sleeve is slotted from the had end into a hole and the nut 15 screwed tightly against it, the said sleeve 14 is compressed securely onto the wall of the hole. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Anchoring device The present invention relates to a device to secure a bolt or the like within a hole, particularly for use in construction work.
It is often difficult to obtain a secure fitting when anchoring a bolt or screw within a hole.
A past attempt included a flexible plastic dowel having a longitudinal slit and a staggered screw thread on each half slit of the dowel.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a means for anchoring a bolt or the like within a hole.
According to the present invention there is provided an anchoring device comprising a bolt defined by an elongate member having at one end a head and at the other end a thread extending towards the head, a flexible sleeve slotted over the elongate member and extending from the head to a distance partially covering the thread, the sleeve and the head being of substantially the same outside diameter, and a nut whereby when part or all of the sleeve is slotted from the head end into a hole and the nut screwed tightly against it, the said sleeve is compressed securely onto the wall of the hole.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the following drawings in which: Figure 1 is a disassembled perspective view of a bolt- with a respective nut and washer; Figure 2 is a similar view of a flexible plastic sleeve; Figure 3 shows the bolt, sleeve, nut and washer assembled together, in accordance with the invention.
Referring to the drawings, 10 denotes a bolt having a cylindrical body 11. A cylindrical head 12 is formed at one end of the cylindrical body 11 and a thread 13 extends two thirds of the length of the body 11 from the other end.
A flexible, plastic sleeve 14 having an outside diameter substantially the same as the head 12 is slotted over the body 11 to lie flush with the head 12 and extends to a distance partially covering the thread 13. The sleeve 14 is held flush against the head 12 by a nut 15 and washer 16.
In use the head 12 and part of the sleeve 14 are slotted into a drilled hole (not shown) slightly greater than the diameter of the sleeve 14. The nut 15 and washer 16 are then tightened down against the sleeve 14 thereby compressing the sleeve 14 securely against the wall of the hole.
Although the embodiment relates to a bolt, any other rod having a head and thread, for example a screw, would be equally acceptable.
1. An anchoring device comprising a bolt defined by an elongate member having at one end a head and at the other end a thread extending towards the head, a flexible sleeve slotted over the elongate member and extending from the head to a distance partially covering the thread, the sleeve and the head being of substantially the same outside diameter, and a nut whereby when part or all of the sleeve is slotted from the head end into a hole and the nut screwed tightly against it, the said sleeve is compressed securely onto the wall of the hole.
2. An arichoring device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the sleeve is formed of synthetic plastics material.
3. An anchoring device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
