Abstract

An automatic washing machine includes program control means by which, for a selected temperature lower than normal washing solution temperature, the duration of the washing process following attainment of the selected temperature by the solution is prolonged by a duration respective to and dependent on the selected temperature. Washing at 90 DEG C, 60 DEG C and 40 DEG C takes 15, 35 and 50 minutes respectively.

Description

SPECIFICATION Automatic washing machine The present inventon relates to an automatic washing machine.
A known washing machine has a selector switch for the temperature of the washing solution, which is freely selectable by the operator within predetermined ranges, and with washing programs, the normal washing solution temperature of which requires heating-up of the solution. There is scope for improving the washing effect in the case of those programs, and to optimise such programs economically, in which the set temperature for the washing solution is lower than the normal temperature. For such programs, for example energy-saving or economy programs, the time for the washing process has been prolonged by a single fixed duration after attainment of the set temperature.
According to the present invention there is provided an automatic washing machine provided with control means to control operation of the machine according to program and with selection means for user selection of any one of a plurality of different temperature values for washing solution in such machine operaton, the control means in use being so responsive to selection of a temperature value below a given normal value for a given program as to cause a finishing washing operation of the machine, performed after attainment of the selected value by the temperature of washing solution in the machine, to be extended by an amount respective to and dependent on the selected value.
In a preferred embodiment, program control equipment allocates times, which are different according to the magnitude and/or the temperature difference, to the duration of the finishing washing process required after attainment of the chosen temperature, in the case of the normal washing solution temperature being fallen below by the chosen temperature.
Through the temperature-dependent adaptation of the duration of the finishing washing process, the efficiency of a washing program and the washing effect in the washing process, performed at a reduced temperature, can be improved.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to an example of operation of an automatic washing machine with a selector switch for the temperature of the washing solution, which is freely selectable by the operator within predetermined ranges, and with wash ing programs, the normal washing solution temperature of which requires heating-up of the solution.
In such a machine, a boiling program is nor mally performed at 900C or 950C (normal washing solution or liquor temperature during the boiling program). After attainment of this temperature of the liquor, the laundry is further agitated during a finishing washing process lasting about 15 minutes in reversing operation of about 50 revolutions per minute in one cycle of normally 7.5 seconds of drum rotation and 7.5 seconds of movement pause.
If, during input of the boiling program, an economy command is additionally put in so as to lower the temperature of the liquor to 600C for example, the finishing washing process is prolonged by, for example, 35 minutes. As a consequence the loss in influence of heat energy is balanced through increase in influence of mechanical energy.
In the state of the art, such a prolongation of the finishing washing process by, for example, 35 minutes is applied uniformly in all programs which, by reason of economy command, are performed with less than the normal liquor temperature, such as an economy coloureds washing program performed at 400C instead of at 60 C.
In a machine embodying the present invention, however, the duration of the prolongation of the finishing washing process is varied in dependence on the temperature difference between the normal and the chosen temperture and/or in dependence on the magnitude of the chosen temperature. For example, the finishing washing process can be prolonged by 50 minutes in the case of a coloureds program with a liquor temperature of 400C instead of 60 C.
The dependencies of the duration of prolongation are fixed from case to case by reference to the washing results in the program run-down in the form of difference times at different temperatures and/or temperature differences. Thereby, varying can even be carried out so finely that a respective particular duration of the prolongation of the finishing washing process in allocated to each downwardly departing difference of the selected temperature from the normal temperature.
1. An automatic washing machine provided with control means to control operation of the machine according to the program and with selection means for user selection of any one of a plurality of different temperature values for washing solution in such machine operation, the control means in use being so responsive to selection of a temperature value below a given normal value for a give program as to cause a finishing washing operaton of the machine, performed after attainment of the selected value by the temperatue of washing solution in the machine, to be extended by an amount respective to and dependent on the selected value.
2. An automatic washing machine as claimed in claim 1 and substantially as herein before described.
