Abstract

A mounting tool comprises a frame 10, placed on the outer surface of the car windshield and connected to the door posts by hooks 27, 28, and having inflatable pressure pillows 23, 24, 25, 26 which hold the windshield with an even pressure against a glue string in the windshield mounting groove. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Mounting tool In the automotive industry one has recently started, to an ever increasing extent, to secure both the front windshield and the back window of the cars by glueing. In this way certain advantages are achieved in industrial manufacture. However, it has been found that simultaneously some problems have been created for the repair shops. Normally, these have no suitable means to satisfactorily press down the windshields into the glue, once the windshields have been applied, and to hold the windshields fixed, at least for a short period of time, during the hardening of the glue.
The present invention has aimed at providing a mounting tool which remedies the just recited deficiency.
Thus, according to the invention there is provided a mounting tool for mounting of car windshields, which tool is characterized in principle in that it comprises a frame, adapted to be placed on the outer surface of a windshield which has been disposed with the edges thereof resting on a glue string, and to be releasably connected to the chassis of the car, and expansible hold down means carried by the frame, between the frame and the windshield, adapted to be expanded in order to press the windshield against the glue string with an even hold down pressure along the edges of the windshield.
The invention will be described in more details below with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein one embodiment of the mounting tool, choosen as an example, is illustrated.
Figure 1 is a front view of the tool; Figure 2 is a plan view from above; Figure 3 is a side view.
The mounting tool shown as an example comprises of a frame 10, e.g. of tube profiles of square section. In the example the frame 10 comprises a longitudial beam 11 which carries three shorter cross-pieces 12, 13, 14, perpendicular to the longitudinal beam 11. As is shown in figure 2 the longitudinal beam 11 may be sligtly arcuate, corresponding to the arcuate shape of most of the existing normal windshields.
The frame 10 carries an upper beam 15 and a lower beam 16, which in the example shown are slidably connected to the crosspiece 13 by means of sleeves 17, 18 so that the upper and lower beams 15, 16 may be placed at adjustable distances from each other. Further, the frame carries two shorter side beams 19, 20, which are carried laterally adjustable and also pivotable into different angular positions by means of laterally adjustable sleeves 21, 22 on the longitudinal beam 11.
On the "inner side", facing away from the frame 10, each one of the upper and lower beams 15, 16 and the side beams 19, 20 is provided with at least one expansible piilow 23, 24, 25, 26, in the example in the shape of elongated, flat pillows, which may be filled by compressed air or pressurized liquid to be expanded so as to exert an even hold down pressure along the edges of the windshield.
All the pillows are in communication with each other through hoses LS, and they have a common inlet IL.
Further, the frame 10 has, at the ends thereof, hook members 27, 28, which are preferably adjustable and lockable, and which are adapted to be hooked up behind door posts or the like.
The tool is used in the following manner: The windshield which is to be mounted is placed resting against a glue string on the window groove, and then the mounting tool is placed on the outer surface of the windshield.
Then, the hook members 27, 28 are swung in behind the door posts of the car, whereupon the pillows 23-26 are expanded by admission of a pressure medium, such as compressed air, so that the windshield is pressed against the glue string with an even hold down pressure along the edges of the windshield.
Modifications and alterations as to details may be carried out within the scope of the
claims.
CLAIMS 1. A mounting tool for mounting of car windshields, characterized in that the tool comprises a frame (10) which is adapted to be placed on the outer surface of windshield which has its edges resting on a glue string, and to be releasably connected to the chassis of the car, and expansible hold down members (23, 24, 25, 26) carried by the frame between the frame and the windshield at the edges thereof, adapted to be expanded so as to press the windshield against the glue string with an even hold down pressure along the edges of the windshield.
2. A tool as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the hold down members are constituted by elongated, flat pressure pillows (23-26).
3. A tool as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the hold down members are disposed on upper and lower beams (15, 16) and side beams (19, 20) which are adjustably carried by the frame (10).
4. A tool as claimed in one or more of claims 1-3, characterized in that all pressure pillows (23, 26) are in communication with each other.
5. A mounting tool for mounting of car windshields, substantially as described with reference to, and as shown in, the accompanying drawings.
