Description

SPECIFICATION Cantilever car port canopy.
This invention relates to a cantilever car port.
Car ports are a recognised means of keeping vehicles under cover. They are normally constructed of a timber frame supported on poles and secured to the wall and covered in plastic sheeting.
Car ports however require some vertical support at one side narrowing the driveway thus restricting the use by wider vehicles.
According to the present invention no vertical supports are needed. It is supported by horizontal beams secured to a vertical wall working as a cantilever.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the car port errected on a wall.
Figure 2 illustrates the way rainwater is collected and disposed of by gutter and downspouts.
Referring to the drawing the car port canopy comprises of a number of glassfibre beams 10 (dependant on length of canopy required) and a number of covering glassfibre sheets 12 (also dependant on length required). At the furthermost point from the wall a fascia board 17 with gutter 16 removes rainwater.
The beams 10 are secured to a wall at point 11 by means of bolts (not shown). The fascia board 17 then secures the end of the beams together. Sheeting 12 is then secured, for example by means of self tapping screws (not shown) to the beams 10. The top of the sheet 14 has an upstand to gain better sealing to the wall which would be done with for example, a sealing tape. Where sheeting 12 is joined together at 13 pn top of a beam these will also be sealed with, for example sealing tape.
The risers 15 in the sheeting 12 give the strength to the sheeting for the span between beams 10. Gutter 16 collects rain water and is sent by means of downspout 18 to a convenient drain.
1. A cantilever car port canopy provides a covered area without the need of supporting vertical columns, being based on cantilever beams which is in itself strong enough to support a person on top to do maintainance work (on a scaffold board) on the building to which it is attached.
2. A cantilever car port canopy as claimed in claim 1 wherein the glassfibre beams are designed to cantilever and take the weight of a person and allow strength for wind and snow load.
3. A cantilever car port canopy as claimed in claim 1 wherein the glassfibre sheets are designed so that the rises give strength to the sheet for the span between beams.
4. A cantilever car port canopy as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein can support by means of crawler boards a person and not break the sheeting or beams.
5. A cantilever car port canopy substantially as described herein with reference to Figs. 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
CLAIMS Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: Claims 1-5 above have been deleted or textually amended.
New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows: 1. A cantilever car port canopy comprising stepped sheeting supported upon a number of spaced apart beams each having one end securable to a wall, the beams being tapered from said one end by provision of successive steps in their upper surfaces corresponding to the profile of the sheeting.
2. A canopy as claimed in claim 1 wherein the beams are connected at their other end by a fascia board.
3. A canopy as claimed in claim 2 wherein a gutter is attached along the fascia board and a downspout leads from the gutter and extends beneath the remainder of the canopy.
4. A canopy as claimed in any preceding claim in which the beams and the sheeting are made of glass fibre.
5. A cantilever car port canopy substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. SPECIFICATION Cantilever car port canopy. This invention relates to a cantilever car port. Car ports are a recognised means of keeping vehicles under cover. They are normally constructed of a timber frame supported on poles and secured to the wall and covered in plastic sheeting. Car ports however require some vertical support at one side narrowing the driveway thus restricting the use by wider vehicles. According to the present invention no vertical supports are needed. It is supported by horizontal beams secured to a vertical wall working as a cantilever. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the car port errected on a wall. Figure 2 illustrates the way rainwater is collected and disposed of by gutter and downspouts. Referring to the drawing the car port canopy comprises of a number of glassfibre beams 10 (dependant on length of canopy required) and a number of covering glassfibre sheets 12 (also dependant on length required). The top of the sheet 14 has an upstand to gain better sealing to the wall which would be done with for example, a sealing tape. Where sheeting 12 is joined together at 13 pn top of a beam these will also be sealed with, for example sealing tape. The risers 15 in the sheeting 12 give the strength to the sheeting for the span between beams 10. Gutter 16 collects rain water and is sent by means of downspout 18 to a convenient drain. CLAIMS
