Description

SPECIFICATION Stringing device This invention relates to a stringing device, such as a washing line for hanging clothes and the like, and includes a string-encasing body and a stringsecuring member that is capable of securing the retractable string pulled out from the encasing body. The invention is designed to improve the conventional stringing method in which two ends of a string are required to be fastened to two supports for hanging clothes which are to be dried in the air and/or under the sunlight.
An object of the invention is to provide a novel stringing device which is convenient to use.
In accordance with the invention, a stringing device for use in hanging things comprises a casing; a first mounting member which is arranged to be fixed to a support and to which the casing is releasably attached; a reel having a string wound thereon mounted in the casing, the string being capable of extending out of the casing when it is unreeled; a spiral spring mounted in the casing and connected to the reel for retracting the string; a second mounting member which is arranged to be fixed to a support, and a fastener provided at the end of the string for releasably securing the string to the second mounting member.
The second mounting member may includes a keyhole aperture, and the fastener may then be a button having two circular parts and an intermediate cylindrical body interconnecting the circular parts wherein the button can be retained in the aperture.
The presently exemplary preferred embodiment of the invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an exploded view showing the casing, with the string reel, and its mounting member: Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of part of the casing; Figure 3 is an exploded view showing a stringsecuring device; and, Figure 4 is a central vertical sectional view of the device in use.
The illustrated device has a string-encasing body 10 and a string-securing member 50. The body 10 includes a bowl shaped cover 30 with a central opening 31, and a circular base plate 11 with a central tubular member 12 which is provided with a screw thread 14. Around the member 12 are formed lugs 15 and at the edge of the plate 11 are further provided an oblong opening 17 and a hollow cylindrical member 16.
A reel 20, has a hub 21 having tubular bore 21a with a diameter slightly larger than the tubular member 12 so that the reel 20 can be fitted onto the tubular member 12. The hub 21 and the inner periphery of the reel 20 cooperatively bound two recesses 22 at opposite sides of the hub 21. A spiral spring 23 is received in one of the recesses 22, and one of the ends of the spring 23 is fixed to the reel 20 and the other end thereof is fixed to the lugs 15. On the reel 20 is wounded a string 24 of which one end is fixed to the reel and the other end extends outwardly of the plate 11, passing through the hollow cylindrical member 16 and then inwards and through the tubular member 12. The string 24 is wound onto the reel 20 in such a manner that when it is unreeled, the spiral will be stressed so as to tend to recoil the string by rotation of the reel.
A knob 40 includes a head 42 and a threaded stem 43, which is passed through the opening 31 of the casing 30 and screwed onto the tubular member 12. The string 24 which is turned inward from the outside of the plate 11 continues to pass through the opening 31 and through bores 43a and 42a of the stem 43 and the head 42 and then extends outwardly of the head 42. A ball 44 is provided between the head 42 and the stem 43, as better shown in Figure 2, for providing the string 24 with a measure of friction when it is pulled out or drawn into the body 10.
There is further provided a mounting plate 45 to which the string-encasing body is releasably attached. The plate is fixed to the vertical face of a support 57 by screws 58 passing through holes 49.
The plate also includes an upper flange 47 with a screw hole 48, and a lower flange 46. The body 10 is attached to the mounting plate 45 by manipulating the slot 17 over and onto the channel-like edge of the flange 46 and screwing a screw 59 through a hole 60 in the casing 30 and into the hole 48.
As shown in Figure 3, the string-securing member includes a mounting plate 55, which is fixed to the vertical face of another support 61 by screws 62 passing through holes 63, and which has a keyhole aperture 56; and a fastenenr 51 which includes two circular parts 52 and 53 interconnected by a coaxial cylindrical body 57. A through hole 54 is further provided in the fastener 51. The fastener 51 holds one end of the string 24, which is passed through the hole 54 and is knotted at the end of the fastener 51. The fastener 51 can secure the string to the mounting plate 55 by threading the circular member 51 through the larger diameter portion of the aperture 56 and retaining it in the smaller diameter portion of the aperture 56.
It will be appreciated that the string-encasing body 10 and the holder 51 are respectively releasably mounted to the mounting plates 45 and 55, so that when not in use, they can be detached from the plates 45 and 55 which remain fixed to the supports.
