Abstract
216,170. Clough, R. E., and Griffin, A. P. Nov. 5, 1923. Screw propellers.-Screw propeller blades in which the portions of the curved driving face adjacent the leading and trailing edges are tangential to the face, and the tangential direction at the leading edge has no angle of attack or incidence are characterized in that the leading and trailing edges are located so that the entering and leaving streams of water or air are of equal width, and the tangent at the trailing edge is directed dead astern or at an angle for efficient propulsion or reversal. The sections at Q, R, S, T of the propeller blade, Fig. 20, have, as shown in Figs. 23 - - 26, the conditions as to tangency set out above. The widths of the streams of water entering, passing, and leaving each section z<1>, z<1>, z<2>, z<2>, z<3>, z<3>, z<4>, z<4> are respectively uniform.
