Abstract

Roller mills.-Relates to triple roller mills of the type in which the adjustable rollers are provided with sprocket wheels which are chain-connected with sprocket wheels on fixed lay shafts, one for each roller. The fixed lay-shaft carrying the driving chain sprocket of the adjustable roller is positioned to lie on, or slightly to the outside of, a line drawn at rightangles to the path of movement for adjustment of the roller and passing through the axis of the roller when in its normal position before adjustment for wear has taken place, means being provided for taking up the initial slack of the chain and for paying it out at will to allow for adjustment of the roller as wear takes place. The central driving-shaft 5 carries a pinion 6 which gears with wheels 7, 8, the wheel 7 being fast on the spindle of the fixed central roller 9 while the wheel 8 is fast with a pinion 10 and rotates on a fixed lay-shaft 11. The wheels 8. 10 mesh with wheels 12, 14 on fixed lay-shafts 13, 15 respectively, and the wheels 12, 14 are fast with sprocket wheels 16, 17 respectively. Sprocket wheels 20, 21 on the spindles of the adjustable rollers 22, 23 are driven by chains 18, 19 from the wheels 16, 17 respectively. Adjustably-mounted jockey-wheels 28, 29 are provided for adjusting the tensions of the chains 18, 19. Each wheel may be mounted on an eccentric boss 30 on a spindle 31 provided with an operating-handle 32 which is locked in position by riieans of a pin 33 on the handle engaging one of a series of holes in a quadrant 34. In a modification, the central roller 9 is chain driven.
