Description

SPECIFICATION Holding device of inactive elastic yarn ends This invention relates to a holding device of inactive elastic yarn ends in a single cylinder circular knitting machine designed to produce hosiery and similar goods, which is equipped with a pneumatic port at the dial.
There are known single cylinder hosiery knitting machines which are provided with mechanical devices designed to hold elastic yarns, said devices being of various designs. All mentioned mechanical holding devices operate so that they press the yarn from above onto the dial cam plate in front of a pneumatic port. The actual holding member is designed either in the form of a lever or of an axially movable piston, the operating ends of which are arranged for the contact with the yarn.
A disadvantage of said designs is the fact that the device occupies the space between the pneumatic port and the cam plate and from this standpoint it is necessary to design the position of the port and of the cutting knife to be able to cut safely also other non-elastic yarns from other feeds with as short ends as possible.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the above mentioned disadvantage.
According to the invention there is provided a holding device for inactive elastic yarn ends in a single cylinder circular knitting machine designed to produce hosiery and similar goods, which is provided with a pneumatic port at the dial, the device comprising at least one holding lever which is rockably mounted above the dial cam plate and controlled from the control mechanism of the machine and further also above the cam plate opposite to the holding lever arranged face against which it bears in closed position from below and in opened position it is swung down to hold the yarn being disengaged.
Fig. 1 shows a mechanical holding device for one yarn in active position; Fig. 2 shows the same as Fig. 1 but in inactive position; Fig. 3 shows a mechanical holding device for two yarns in active position; Fig. 4 shows the same as Fig. 3, but with one holding lever in active position and the other in an inactive position; Fig. 5 shows the same as Fig. 3, but with both holding levers in inactive positions; and Fig. 6 shows a mechanical holding device disposed on a holder off the pneumatic port.
A known single cylinder circuit knitting machine designed to produce hosiery goods is provided with a not shown needle cylinder and a dial with pneumatic port 1 arranged above said cylinder, pneumatic port 1 being in a known way arranged above the dial cam plate 2. In the horizontal part 1 r of pneumatic port 1 there is a recess 3 receiving from below a holding lever 4.
Said holding lever 4 is rockably mounted in the horizontal part 1'. In the horizontal part 1' of pneumatic port 1 there is an opening 5 into which engages a screw 6 screwed into the end of the holding lever 4. Two nuts 61, 62 are screwed on the part of screw 6 extending above the horizontal part 1'. The opening 5 is of a substantially larger diameter than the diameter of the screw 6. Further on the holding lever 4 there is a fixedly arranged pin 7 passing through an opening in the horizontal part 1 ' of the pneumatic port 1. On pin 7 above the horizontal part 1' there is a compression spring 8, the upper end of which bears against a washer 7' secured by a retaining ring. Lever 9, rockably mounted on a pin in holder 10 fixed to the horizontal part 1', bears against the upper end of the pin 7.To the other end of lever 9 is fixed a stranded wire 11, being controlled from the control mechanism of the machine e.g. from a counting chain.
The operation of the above described device is as follows. By moving the holding lever into an active or inactive position according to the time intervals of the machine changes, when the elastic yarn is either engaged or disengaged, the yarn is either held or released. In closed position, the holding lever 4 bears from below against the face of the recess 3 in horizontal part 1' of the pneumatic port 1, as shown in Fig. 1 and holds or clamps the disengaged elastic yarn P1, the free end of which is sucked into the pneumatic port 1.
By a dictate from the control mechanism, stranded wire 11 is pulled and the other end of lever 9 is swung down, as shown in Fig. 2 and lowers the pin 7 against the action of the compression spring 8. Holding lever 4 opens or swings downwards into an opened position and the elastic yarn P is released, the needles take it and lead it in the direction from the left to the right and knit it into the fabric. By a following dictate the holding lever 4 closes again and it remains in this position until the moment when it is necessary to hold the elastic yarn P.The holding lever is opened again and the last needle leads the elastic yarn in the direction from the right to the left into the gap between the holding lever 4 and horizontal part 1' of the pneumatic port and then the lever 9 is released and the compression spring 8 closes the holding lever 4 is essentially the lower edge of the nut 62, because the diameter of the opening 5 permits rocking of the screw 6 as shown in Fig. 2.
Further there may be two holding levers 41 and 42 arranged in side-by-side relation, as shown in Fig. 3, said holding levers being controlled by two levers 91 and 92. This modification is designed for the machines knitting with two elastic yarns in two feeds. The holding lever 42 bears directly against the lower part 1' or against the horizontal face of the recess 5 of the pneumatic port 1 and the holding lever 41 is shaped so, that it bears from below against the face of the holding lever 42. The pin 71 of the holding lever 41 then passes through the opening in the holding lever 42.
The operation of this embodiment is as follows.
In closed position both holding levers are in the recess 3, as shown in Fig. 3. In opened position for holding or releasing the yarn, only the holding lever 41 can be opened, as shown in Fig. 4, and it co-operates only with the yarn P1, or both can be opened and the holding lever 4a co-operates with the yarn P2, while it automatically presses also the holding lever 41 which holds the yarn P1, as shown in Fig. 5. Both holding levers 41 and 42 are again controlled by the levers 91 and 92 from the control mechanism of the machine.
The holding lever does not need to be mounted on the pneumatic port, but for example it can be mounted on a holder 100 (Fig. 6), which is arranged directly on the pneumatic port 1. The holding lever 41 is mounted rockably on the pin 42 and with regard to the holder 100, it is biased by a compression spring 43 being pulled on a controlled stranded wire 44 and leaning against the holder 100 and the holding lever 41. The elastic yarn P3 is then held between the lower face of the holder 100 and the holding lever 41, which opens to hold and release the yarn P3, as illustrated in dashed lines in Fig. 6, due to the action of the stranded wire 44, as described in previous cases.
The advantage of the device according to this invention is that the device is able to select only a certain yarn and does not hinder the passage of other yarns even in opened condition, because after clamping the yarn it does not protrude from the plane of the suction port.
