Description

SPECIFICATION Hand-held shower head The present invention relates to a hand-held shower head having additional means for the delivery of an unpressurised fluid independently of the water. The additional fluid may, for example, be liquid soap or shampoo and is delivered by means of a pump device mounted on the body of the shower head. The pump is connected to a reservoir for the fluid by means of a delivery pipe and also to a delivery outlet located adjacent to the rose or nozzle of the shower. The delivery pipe for the additional fluid is preferably located within the flexible pipe which carries the water or is coiled about such pipe.
Hand-held shower heads of the type which hook onto a wall or are supported on a bracket of a bath tap unit are already known. However, these are designed purely for the delivery of water.
The present invention therefore seeks to provide a shower head unit which is capable of delivering two separate fluids independently of one another. One of the fluids, that is to say, the water is under pressure and the other, that is to say, liquid soap or shampoo is unpressurised. The second fluid is provided from a reservoir spaced apart from the shower head and being delivered thereto by a manually operated pump which is mounted on the body of the shower.
According to the present invention, there is provided a hand-held shower head or movable outlet for the delivery of water in baths or washbasins comprising means for delivering water from the shower head and means for delivering an additional fluid such as liquid soap or shampoo independently and separately from the water, reservoir means for the additional fluid container, the reservoir means being spaced apart from the shower head, the means for delivering the additional fluid comprising a pump having a delivery outlet and a delivery duct mounted on or integrally formed with the shower head, the delivery duct of the pump being connected to the reservoir for the additional fluid by means of a delivery pipe, at least a portion of the delivery pipe being housed in a flexible sheath or coil together with the pipe delivering water to the shower.
Preferably, the flexible coil or sheath has four holes, two of which at the ends coincide with the ends of the water pipe and the other two of which are located before the ends for connection or passage of the delivery pipe for the liquid fluid.
One embodiment of the present invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which shows a shower unit in accordance with the present invention supported on a support bracket.
In the Figure, there is shown a shower head 1 which is connected, by means of a flexible pipe 2 to an inlet 3 supplying water, the inlet being downstream of at least one water tap (not shown).
The flexible pipe 2 is located within a flexible sheath or coil 4 having connectors 5 and 6 for connecting the pipe 2 to the inlet 3 and to the shower head 1. A pump 7 is mounted on the head 1 of the shower in a mounting 1'. The pump may be of any suitable known type and will not, therefore, be described in further detail. The pump is activated by means of a push-button or operating lever 8, as shown in the drawing.
The pump 7 delivers an additional fluid separately and independently of the water. The additional fluid may, for example, be liquid soap or shampoo. Such fluid is contained in a reservoir 9 spaced from the shower head 1 and affixed to a wall.
In order to deliver such additional fluid, the pump 7 has connected thereto a delivery outlet 10 located in the vicinity of the rose of the shower and a duct 11 to which is connected a delivery pipe 12, 12' leading to the reservoir 9 for the additional fluid.
The delivery outlet 10, the mounting 1' for the pump 7 and the duct 11 may be located on the shower head but, advantageously, are integrally formed with the head 1 in a single pressing operation.
At least a portion 1 2 of the delivery pipe is located within the flexible sheath or coil 4 within which the flexible pipe 2 for delivery of water to the shower head is also located. The ends of the portion 12 of the delivery pipe located in sheath or coil 4 are attached to outlets 13 and 14 which extend radially from the end connections 5 and 6 of the coil 4 to the reservoir 9 and the duct 11 respectively, the duct 11 also being connected to the pump 7 as is shown in the drawing.
In this manner, the pipe 2 for the water and the delivery pipe 12 for the additional fluid are both enclosed by, and move with, the sheath or coil 4.
The two fluids can thus be delivered separately from the shower head. This does not, however, prevent the delivery pipe for the soap from being fixed to the interior of the coil in its own sheath, if desired.
In any event the liquid soap or shampoo may be carried to and delivered directly in the vicinity of the shower head for the more convenient use of the latter.
A similar embodiment may be provided, within the scope of the present invention, for outlets for the delivery of water in washbasins which are supplied with liquid by means of a pipe contained within a flexible sheath or coil.
