Abstract

A pipe support 100 comprises a mounting member 1 for attachment to a mounting surface, and a support member 2 for supporting a pipe relative to the mounting surface when pivoted from the illustrated position to a position in which the base 103 of the support member 2 overlies the fixing hole 3 in the mounting member 1 and thereby hides the screw fixing 4 therefor from view. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to pipe supports This invention relates to pipe supports which are attachable to a mounting surface, such as a wall surface, by screw fixings for supporting a pipe relative to the mounting surface.
An object of the invention is to provide a pipe support in which any screw fixing used is hidden from view by the support itself.
According to the invention, there is provided a pipe support comprising a mounting member for attachment to a mounting surface, and a support member for supporting a pipe relative to such a mounting surface when cooperating with the mounting member in a support position relative thereto, said mounting member having at least one hole for a screw fixing which hole is covered by the support member when the support member is in said support position to thereby hide the screw fixing from view.
In the two embodiments of the invention described hereinafter, the support member is pivotally connected to said mounting member for movement to said support position in which a respective cover portion of the support member overlies the or each hole.
Preferably the support and mounting members include cooperable retaining means for retaining the support members in said support position.
In order that the invention may be well understood, the two embodiments thereof referred to above, and given by way of example only, will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pipe support illustrating the fixing method thereof; Figure 2 is a side view of the pipe support of Figure 1, to a different scale and showing a support member of a support in a support position relative to a mounting member thereof; and Figures 3 and 4 are similar views to Figures 1 and 2 respectively of another pipe support.
In the drawings, each of the two illustrated pipe supports 100, 200 comprises a mounting member 1 for attachment to a mounting surface (nof shown), which typically would be a vertical wall surface, and a support member 2 for supporting a pipe (not shown) relative to such a support surface when cooperating with the mounting member 1 in a support position relative thereto as shown in Figures 2 and 4.
The mounting member 1 has at least one hole 3~one such hole being provided in the mounting member of support 100 and two such holes being provided in the mounting member of support 200~for a screw fixing 4.
The supports 100, 200 are arranged such that when the support members thereof are in their support positions the holes 3 are covered and thus the screw fixings 4 will be hidden from view by the structure of the supports.
In each of the illustrated supports 100, 200, the support member 2 is pivotally connected to the mounting member 1 for movement to its support position in which a respective cover portion of the support member 2 overlies the or each hole 3.
In support 100, the mounting and support members 1 and 2 comprise an integral plastics moulding in which members 1 and 2 are hinged together at a hinge portion 101 adjacent one end 102 of a base 103 of the support member from which a substantially C-shaped pipe receiving portion 104 thereof extends.
A central part of the base 103 forms the cover portion of the support member 2 and overlies the hole 3 when the support member is pivoted from its position illustrated in Figure 1 to its position illustrated in Figure 2, in which, with the mounting member 1 attached to a vertical surface, as shown, the mouth of the substantially C-shaped pipe receiving portion 104 extends horizontally and opens upwardly to receive a pipe from above.
It is to be understood, however, that the substantially C-shaped pipe receiving portion 104 could be orientated differently with respect to the base 103. For example it might be arranged such that the mouth thereof extends vertically and opens horizontally in order to receive a pipe from a position normal to the vertical surface on which the mounting member is attached.
In support 200, the cover portions for the two holes 3 in the mounting member 1 thereof comprise outwardly extending portions 201,202 at the ends of a substantially U-shaped pipe retaining portion 203 of the support member. The mounting and support members of support 200 are separate plastics mouldings and are hinged together by means of respective hinge portions 204, 205 formed thereon. The hinge portion 205 of support member 2 is formed on end portion 201 thereof and is substantially C-shaped in cross section to receive hinge portion 204 of mounting member 1 which is formed as a pivot pin onto which the hinge portion 205 is snap-fittable and about which the hinge portion 205 is rotatable.
In order to attach the mounting members 1 of the supports 100, 200 to a support surface, the support members 2 are pivoted away from the mounting members 1 to positions as illustrated in Figures 1 and 3, screw fixings 4 are inserted into the holes 3 thereof and the screws tightened.
Thereafter the support members 2 are pivoted in the direction of the arrows shown in Figures 1 and 3 to their support positions in which the cover portions overlie the holes 3 and hide the screw fixings from view. It will be understood that in the case of support 200 the pipe will be positioned in support member 2 prior to it being pivoted to its support position and that in the case of support 100 the pipe may be positioned in support member 2 either before or after it has been pivoted to its support position.
The mounting and support members 1,2 of each support 100, 200 include cooperable retaining means for retaining the support member in its support position as illustrated in Figures 2 and 4. In the support 100, the support member 2 is provided with a resilient projection 105 (Figure 2) extending from the base 103 and engageable in a recess 106 in the mounting member 1. In the support 200, one of the support and mounting members comprises a portion which is snap fittable with a portion of the other member. As illustrated, the support member 2 has a substantially C-shaped arrangement 206 on end portion 202 thereof which snap-fits over a pin 207 of the mounting member 1.

Claims (7)

1. A pipe support comprising a mounting member for attachment to a mounting surface, and a support member for supporting a pipe relative to such a mounting surface when cooperating with the mounting member in a support position relative thereto, said mounting member having at least one hole for a screw fixing which hole is covered by the support member when the support member is in said support position to thereby hide the screw fixing from view.
2. A pipe support as claimed in claim 1, wherein said support member is pivotally connected to said mounting member for movement to said support position in which a respective cover portion of the support member overlies the or each hole.
3. A pipe support as claimed in claim 2, wherein the support and mounting members include cooperable retaining means for retaining the support members in said support position.
4. A pipe support as claimed in claim 3, wherein said retaining means comprises a portion of one of said members snap fittable with a portion of the other members.
5. A pipe support as claimed in claim 3, wherein said retaining means comprises a resilient projection on one member engageable in a recess in the other members.
6. A pipe support as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the support and mounting members comprise an integral plastics moulding.
7. A pipe support substantially as herein described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings.
