Pulleys.-A belt. pulley has a flange b, keyed to the shaft a, and a flange c loose on the shaft a, and the flanges b, c are connected by links e, so that, when the belt n slips the flange c is angularly displaced relatively to the flange b and the flanges b, c approach each other so as to grip the belt more tightly. A spring d may normally keep the flanges b, c apart. and the links e may have spherical ends, as shown, or may be made of flexible material. Flexible sleeves l and end caps m prevent water reaching, and retain grease in, the space surrounding the links e.
