Abstract

Pliers.-In dental forceps, pliers or other gripping appliances in which a releasable ratchet D pivoted to one handle A engages with a toothed rack C secured to the other handle B, the ratchet is provided with a projecting piece D<1> which is situated in such a position between the ends of the handles that it may be pressed by the thumb of the operator to release the ratchet without relaxing hold on the handles. The ratchet is pivoted in a slot in the handle and is controlled by a leaf-spring E one end of which is secured to the handle A by a screw e and the other end is bent over the sides of the ratchet so as to form a. sliding fit. The rack is curved and is riveted to the handle B. A helical compression spring F is mounted between the handles.
