Abstract
A framing rail 2 of channel cross-section for a plane of glass 16 comprises two side walls, 4, 6, one on each side of the pane of glass and connected by webs 8, 10. On the inside of the walls adjacent their free edges 12, 14, replaceable support strips 22, 24 which contact the pane of glass are mounted in guides 18, 20. At least one adjustment block 28 is arranged between the web 8 and the edge of the pane of glass 16. Cover plates 35 may be provided. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Framing rail for a pane of glass
The invention relates to a framing rail for a pane of glass having two legs, one on each side of the pane of glass in use.
The object of the invention is to provide such a rail which is simple to produce and which can be adapted to panes of glass of different thicknesses.
According to the invention, there is provided a framing rail for a pane of glass comprising two legs, extending each side of the pane of glass in use, the legs being intergrally connected to each other and on the inside, next to their free edges, the legs being provided with guides for replaceable support strips which come into contact with the pane of glass in use.
Since the legs of the rail are integrally connected to each other, the rail may be produced in one piece by extrusion. By means of the support strips, the rail may be adapted to panes of glass of different thicknesses, and the pane of glass can also be adjusted relative to the rail (or the rail may be adjusted relative to the pane of glass).
In order to provide a particularly simple method of clamping the support strips with little risk of damage to the pane of glass by the support strips, the support strips are preferably T-shaped in cross section, the trnns- verse legs of each support strip engaging in one of the guides whilst the longitudinal legs of the support strip are rounded at their end faces.
Support strips of this kind also serve as a limiting means for the cementing composition and reduce the space which has to be filled with putty.
To enable the position of the rail to be set and adjusted in the direction of the plane of the pane of glass, the legs are preferably connected to each other by a base comprising at least one base member, with at least one adjustment block being arranged between the base and the edge of the pane of glass.
In order to enable the adjustment blocks to be replaced and moved, at least one aperture for the insertion of at least one adjustment block is preferably provided in at least one of the legs.
The invention is hereinafter described with reference to a preferred embodiment, referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side view, partly broken away, of a framing rail according to the invention mounted on a pane of glass; and
Figure 2 shows the rail of Fig. 1 in a section on line Il-Il.
A framing rail 2 comprises two legs 4, 6 which are integrally connected with each other by means of a base comprising two base members 8, 10. Next to their upper free edges 12, 14, the rails are provided on the inside with guides 18, 20 for replaceable support strips 22, 24 which come into contact with a pane of glass 16. The support strips 22, 24 are each T-shaped in cross section. The transverse legs of the T-shaped cross sections engage in the guides 18, 20.
The longitudinal legs which project out of the guides 18, 20 are rounded at their end faces and press against the outer surfaces of the pane of glass. Adjustment blocks 28, 30 are inserted between the base member 8 and the edge 26 of the pane of glass 16. For this purpose, apertures 32, 34 are provided towards the ends of the leg 4.
The outer surfaces of the legs 4, 6 are provided with cover plates. The drawings show only a cover plate 35 which covers the leg 6. At the bottom, the cover plate 35 has a hook 36 with which it engages around a projection 38 at the lower end of the leg 6.
The upper end 40 of the cover plate 35 is bent inwards and on the inside it has a grooved strip 42 mounted thereon. Located opposite the groove 44 in the grooved strip is a groove 46 in the upper end face of the leg 6. A longitudinally movable retaining bar 48 which secures the cover plate 35 to the leg 6 engages in both grooves 44, 46. A tubular seal 50 is set into the end face of the grooved strip 42 which faces the pane of glass 16.
Protruding from the lower base 10 of the rail are projections 52, 54, having sealing strips and base sliding strips 56, 58 inserted in their undersides.
The end face of the rail 2 which is shown in the left in Fig. 1 is covered by a cover plate 60.

2. Framing rail according to claim 1, wherein the support strips are T-shaped in cross section, their transverse legs engaging in the guides whilst their longitudinal legs are rounded at their end faces.
3. Framing rail according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the legs are connected to each other by means of a base comprising at least one base member, and comprising at least one adjustment block arranged between the base and the edge of the pane of glass in use.
4. Framing rail according to claim 3, wherein at least one aperture for the insertion of said at least one adjustment block is provided in at least one of the legs.
5. Framing rail for a pane of glass, substantially as herein described with reference to

Claims (3)
1. Framing rail for a pane of glass comprising two legs, extending one on each side of the pane of glass in use, the legs being integrally connected to each other and on the inside, next to their free edges, the legs being provided with guides for replaceable support strips which come into contact with the pane of glass in use.
2. Framing rail according to claim 1, wherein the support strips are T-shaped in cross section, their transverse legs engaging in the guides whilst their longitudinal legs are rounded at their end faces.
3. Framing rail as claimed in claim 7, wherein the said fixing means comprise a groove extending along one longitudinal edge of each leg and a projection extending along the opposite longitudinal edge.
3. Framing rail according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the legs are connected to each other by means of a base comprising at least one base member, and comprising at least one adjustment block arranged between the base and the edge of the pane of glass in use.
4. Framing rail according to claim 3, wherein at least one aperture for the insertion of said at least one adjustment block is provided in at least one of the legs.
5. Framing rail for a pane of glass, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
CLAIMS (10Jul1981)
1. Framing rail for a pane of glass, comprising two legs arranged to extend one on each side of a pane of glass in use and being interconnected by a base comprising at least one base member, at least one adjustment block being insertable between the said base and the edge of the pane of glass, and at least one of the said legs being provided with at least one aperture for the insertion of said adjustment block(s).
2. Framing rail as claimed in claim 6, wherein the said legs are provided with means for the fixing of cover plates to their outer surfaces.
