Abstract
207,229. Drummond, G. Aug. 14, 1922. Valves; valve gear; regulating.-In a two-stroke engine employing liquid fuel and having two doubleacting pistons 2, Fig. 1, working in the same cylinder 1 and having a common combustion space A between them and combustion spaces B<1>, B<2> which may be interconnected, on their opposite sides, the fuel is injected into the combustion spaces through automatic valves 34 connected through pipes 26 with a distributing-valve 23. Lift valves 21 on opposite sides of each combustion space serve for air admission and exhaust respectively, and are actuated from cam shafts 17, 18 on each side of the engine and driven from the engine shaft through toothed gearing 16, 16<1>. The distributing-valve. 23 comprises a hollow rotating cone 29, Fig. 3, driven through bevel gearing from one of the cam shafts and having a central outlet pipe and two ports 30 communicating through flared passages 37 in the valve seating 27 with the pipes 26. The seating 27 may be rotated by hand by means of a pin 28 working in an arcuate slot 38, to vary the time of admission of fuel to the cylinder. The engine will run equally well in either direction.
