Variable-speed gearing comprises planetary pinions e elastically controlled so as to yield an automatic variation by being connected through cranks g and rods h to oscillating inertia masses j. The pinions e are carried in a frame r secured to a driven shaft b, and mesh directly with a sun gear d fast on a driving-shaft a. A pair of masses j may be connected by an arm pivoted about the shaft a, as shown. In a modification, the crank of each pinion is connected to two balanced masses which oscillate about opposed eccentric pivots upon the frame.
