Catches, gravity.-In pivoted-window opening and closing apparatus comprising links 12, pivoted to each other and to the window and frame and operated by cords 22, 23, and a lever 19 having a recess 15 embracing the lever 21, a catch 25, for the closed position is pivoted to a lug on the plate 6 screwed to the window, the catch having a hooked, &c., end engaging the boss which carries the pivot 5. The catch is automatically released by the first pull on the operating cord by engagement of the lever 19 with a rounded end 29 of the catch. The recess 15 engaging the lever 2 is enlarged to permit the necessary lost motion. Upward and downward movement of the catch is limited by the lug 9 and stop 30<a> on the plate 6. The links 1, 2 in opening the window move beyond the dead centre till stopped by engagement of the shaped end of the link 1 with the plate 6. In a modification, Fig. 5, the operating cords 22, 23 are attached to the lever 2 and the catch 25 is released by engagement of the cam-shaped ends of the link 1 with the catch, the necessary lost motion being permitted by a slot 40. The inturned projecting sides 43 of the apertured plate 6 act as stops for the catch and for the link 1 in its outward position.
