Abstract

Silica in a porous form suitable for use as an absorbent, for instance for use in electric batteries, is prepared by boiling in acid such as sulphuric acid a dried gel produced according to Specifications 142,974, 177,746, 203,158, and 206,267, [all in Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic], thoroughly washing with water and then drying to the desired extent.
