Abstract

Hoods.-In a collapsable hood for a vehicle in which the cant-rails are formed in two portions pivotally connected together, the rear portions of the cant-rails being pivoted at their rear ends to pililars hinged to the body rails whilst the front portions are directly connected bv links to the hinge pillars, the hinge pillars are linked to the body rails at points to the rear of their hinge pivots. To a lug 5 on an elbow piece 2 are pivoted an adjustable back stay 7 and a rear hinged pillar 6, the upper part of which carries the rear member of the cant-rail and a link 14 pivoted at its other end to the front member 15 of the cant-rail. The front member is pivotally connected to the rear member 11 by a link 21, Fig. 3. A radius link 8 pivoted to a lug 4 on the elbow piece 2 is connected through a lever 13, hinged at an intermediate part to the rear pillar 6, to a link 16 pivoted to the link 14, against which the end of the lever 13 abuts, and to a front stay link 17 hinged to the member 15. A series of lugs 25 is provided on the member 15 and to the lug which corresponds to the width of the door there is hinged a central pillar 24 detachably secured to the body by a spring-ball lock 26. An arm 22, pivoted at one end to the pillar 24 and provided with a series of holes 30, by one of which its other end is hinged to the link 17, compels the pillar to move forwards and upwards to fold on top of the hood when collapsed. The pillars 6, 24 and the members 11, 15 carry guides for sliding windows. In a modification, the lever 13 is dispensed with, the link 16 terminating on the link 14 which has a rearward and downward extension connected to the radius link 8. In both forms, an extension of the radius link 8 may be connected to a spring to assist in raising the hood.
