Abstract

A wiper blade harness is made of thermoplastic material in one piece and comprises spindle 6 for connection to the end of a wiper arm 7, two large elastically deformable arms 3, and two small elastically deformable arms 8 carried by said two large arms respectively and directed towards the respective free ends of the harness, the ends of the arms having claws 9 to receive a wiper blade 2. In a modification, see Fig. 3, the harness is provided with a pivotable lever 10 and openings 12 for engagement with a spindle mounted on the end of a wiper arm. The wiper blade assembly may be used on windscreens, rear windows, or headlamps of vehicles. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Screen wiper The present invention relates to screen wipers for automobile vehicles, such as those utilised for wiping the windscreens, rear windows or headlamps of vehicles.
The known wipers are generally constituted by an articulated harness fitted removably on the extremity of a screen wiper and carrying a wiper blade rubber.
For reasons of economy it has been proposed to make such a harness in one single piece from plastics material, with two elastically deformable arms connected to a rigid portion equipped with hooks retaining the central part of the blade rubber. However this proposal did not permit of producing a satisfactory wiper by reason of the inadequate possible deformation of the blade rubber.
The invention aims at obtaining, with a onepiece wiper harness, an adequate deformability of the blade rubber to follow the forms of the majority of surfaces to be wiped.
According to the invention there is provided a screen wiper for attachment to a wiper arm constituted by a one-piece harness of thermoplastic material comprising means for removably fitting said wiper on the end of the wiper arm, two large elastically deformable arms, and two small elastically deformable arms carried by said two large arms respectively and directed towards the respective free ends of the wiper, the ends of the arms being adapted to receive a wiper blade.
Such a screen wiper is represented by way of non-limitative example in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the wiper; Figure 2 is a plan view of the wiper according to Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the central part of the wiper, in a variant of embodiment.
The wiper as represented in Figs. 1 and 2 is constituted by a harness 1 carrying a wiper blade rubber 2. The harness 1 is in one single piece of thermoplastic material such as a polycarbonate and comprises two elastically deformable elongated arms 3 each equipped at its extremities with claws 4 grasping the blade rubber 2. Between the arms 3 the harness 1 comprises a window 5 through which there extends a transverse spindle 6 on which the end of a wiper arm 7 can be fitted.
Each arm 3 carries a small arm 8 equipped with end claws 9 grasping the blade rubber 2.
Each small arm 8, which is integral with the harness 1, is elastically deformable and extends towards the respective extremity of the wiper. The wiper as just described permits great deformability of the blade rubber 2 by virtue of the independent elasticity of each of the arms 3 and 8.
In the variant according to Fig. 3, the spindle 6 is eliminated and the window 5 is partially blocked by a locking lever 10 integral with the harness 1 and connected thereto by a thinner zone so that the lever 10 can pivot elastically about an axis perpendicular to the wiper. The lever 10 comprises an extremity 11 protruding above the wiper and serving as push button. The sides of the window 5 each comprise a circular cut-out 1 2 for the passage of a spindle (not shown) mounted transversely on the end of a wiper arm. The lever 10 comprises a notch 13 which co-operates with a groove of this spindle, to lock the latter. To free it, it is sufficient to press in the pushbutton 11 as indicated by the arrow.
1. A screen wiper for attachment to a wiper arm constituted by a one-piece harness of thermoplastic material comprising means for removably fitting said wiper on the end of the wiper arm, two large elastically deformable arms, and two small elastically deformable arms carried by said two large arms respectively and directed towards the respective free ends of the wiper, the ends of the arms being adapted to receive a wiper blade.
2. A wiper as claimed in claim 1, wherein the harness is formed with a central window across which there extends a spindle integral with the said harness.
3. A wiper as claimed in claim 1 for attachment to a wiper arm having a grooved spindle at the distal end thereof, having a central window formed in the harness, and a lever integral with the harness and pivotable about an axis transverse to the length of the harness, said harness having a transverse passage in the region of the window, said lever having a notch which cooperates with the groove in said spindle after the latter has entered said transverse passage.
4. A screen wiper for attachment to a wiper arm substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
