Abstract

An infant's trainer cup comprises a feeding bottle 1 and an internally threaded lid 2 having a spout 8 and an internal sealing flange 9. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Baby's Feeding Bottle This invention relates to feeding utensils for infants.
Feeding bottles are known which consist of a single-ended rigid plastics container, preferably tapering inwards from the base and having its open end threaded to engage the interior of an annular threaded cap serving to retain a flanged teat against the open end of the bottle.
After a baby has drunk for a period of time from such a bottle it becomes necessary to introduce the idea of drinking from a cup and, for this purpose, there has been produced what is known as a "trainer cup". This normally consists of a cup having a lip portion around the top over which is press-fitted a lid having an integral drinking spout eccentrically positioned towards one edge. Such a trainer cup has the merit of retaining most of the contents if it is accidentally overturned or dropped but suffers from a number of disadvantages. For example, spilling may occur while the lid is being fitted, or due to the lid not having been fitted correctly. Moreover, the lid may come off if the cup is accidentally dropped.
According to the present invention there is provided an infant's feeding utensil comprising a generally cylindrical lid having an integral spout and being internally threaded to engage the threaded neck of a rigid feeding bottle.
Apart from overcoming the previously mentioned disadvantages, the invention has two other advantages in that it allows a variety of feeding bottles to continue in use and that the infant can handle an article with which he is familiar.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a conventional feeding bottle provided with a cap holding a teat, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the trainer cup lid according to this embodiment, and Fig. 3 is a similar view of Fig. 1 but showing the lid of Fig. 2 in position on the feeding bottle.
Referring to Fig. 1, the bottle 1 is threaded at 2 to engage with a threaded annular cap 3. The latter retains in position a teat 4 provided with an integral flange 5. A cover 6 is a push-fit over the cap 3 and serves to protect the teat when the bottle is not in use.
Turning to Fig. 2, the trainer cup lid 7 according to this embodiment is similar to conventional trainer cup lids in having an eccentrically positioned integral spout 8 for insertion in the infant's mouth. As shown in Fig. 3, however, the lid 7, instead of being a push fit over the end of an associated trainer cup, is internally threaded to enable it to be threaded on to a conventional feeding bottle 1 in place of the original cap 3. An internal annular sleeve 9 is also formed integrally with the lid 7 and makes a positive seal against the neck of the bottle. The exterior of the lid 6 is adapted to receive a protective push-pn cover of the type shown at 6 in Fig.1.
Claims
1. An infant's feeding utensil comprising a generally cylindrical lid having an integral spout and being internally threaded to engage the threaded neck of a rigid feeding bottle.
2. An infant's feeding utensil as claimed in Claim 1 in which the lid is provided with an integral internal annular sleeve to form a seal within the neck of the bottle.
3. The combination of the lid of Claim 1 and a rigid feeding bottle.
4. An infant's feeding utensil substantially as described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings.

Superseded Claims, Claim 1.
New or Amended Claims: 1. An infant's feeding utensil comprising a generally cylindrical lid having an integral spout and being provided with means for attachment to a container for liquid, characterized in that the lid is internally threaded to engage the threaded neck of a conventional feeding bottle in place of the annular threaded cap normally serving to retain a flanged teat in position on the bottle.
