Abstract

Tyre covers, making.-In machines of the type in which a strip of canvas or cord fabric is formed on a drum into a sleeve or ring for subsequent treatment index lines are marked on the fabric to serve as indicating means for use in setting-up the fabric band or ring without distortion in any subsequent operation. A drum 5 is fed with tyre fabric 8 passing from a stock-roll 7 under a roller 10, the backing strip 9 winding on to a roller 11. The roller 10 is driven by contact with the fabric on the drum 5 and drives the roller 11, the stock-roll 7 being driven by the pull of the backing strip. The rollers 10, 11 are capable of vertical sliding movement in the frame 6 and the pressure of the roller 10 on the drum 5 may be varied. An arm 13 pivoted to the frame carries a disc 15 which contacts with the fabric 8 on the drum and traces a circumferential line round the middle of the fabric band. The transverse marking device comprises a disc 17 carried by an arm 18 mounted to swing about a pivot 19 on a member 20 which is slidable in a block 22 on the frame. A spring-controlled lever 23 pivoted to the frame is adapted to engage recesses 25 in the drum edges, thus arresting its rotation at regular intervals to enable the disc 17 to be traversed across the drum face.
