Abstract

202,471. Preston, A. July 1, 1922. Bedsteads convertible into seats.-Two upholstered members are hinged together, and means are provided to prevent bulging of the upholstery when the members are arranged as a seat, and also to hold the seat and back in fixed angular relation. The upper covers a, inner fabric b and the spring canvas c are joined immediately above the axis of the hinges g. A transverse rod h is attached to the joined fabric by means of a canvas loop i, and to this rod are fastened the ends of a series of cords or webbings which pass over rollers m and are then secured to the bottom rail p of the upholstered back portion f so that when the latter is turned upwards the upholstery surface at the junction is drawn down. Projections q on the lower side of the seat portion e engages the front rail r of the supporting frame, while studs s on the back member are engaged by slots t in the end frame members u, thus holding the seat and back in the required position, while the back may be dropped by raising and pulling forward the seat portion, allowing the studs to slide down the slots.
