Abstract

In the engine big end bearing a fully free floating annular component 3 replaces the roller bearing, there being small working clearances for lubricating oil between the annular component and the crank pin bearing surface 9, and also between the annular component and the connecting rod big end bearing surface 4. The lubricating oil supply passes through the crank pin to a small circumferential oil groove 7 cut in the crank pin bearing surface, oil also being fed outwards through six equally spaced radially disposed holes 6 drilled on the centre line of the annular component to a circumferential oil groove 5 cut in the outer radial bearing surface of the annular component. <IMAGE>
