Abstract

In order to provide a habitation unit such as a caravan, motorised caravan or cabin cruiser with a raisable roof structure, a roof member 12 is mounted on an open top of a body member 10 of the habitation unit by means of two pairs of scissor- like linkages such that the roof member can be raised and lowered relative to the body member by a- jacking arrangement 36. Each scissor- like linkage 14 comprises a pair of interpivoted elongate bracing members 22, 24. One end of the bracing member 22 is pivotably attached to the roof member 12 at a fixed location thereon and one end of the members 24 is pivotably attached to the body member 10 at a fixed location thereon. The other ends of the bracing members 22, 24 are pivotably coupled to the body member 10 and the roof member 12, respectively, in a manner with enables the horizontal attitude of the roof member 12 to be maintained when the scissor-like linkages are extended and contracted. <IMAGE>
