Abstract

A two-part buckle for use in a vehicle seat belt system has a tongue part (10) receivable in a socket part (20) and is releasably latched by a latch member (40) pivoted near the socket mouth. Inwardly from the socket mouth, the latch member has a formation for engaging the tongue and is itself engaged by a spring (50) by which it is urged into the latched position. Extending further inwardly the latch member has a release portion (46) by which is manually moved to a release position in which the tongue is ejected by a spring loaded ejector. The release portion can be directly manually actuated or through a release member (80) pivoted near the socket mouth and acting on the inner end of the release portion. <IMAGE>
