Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the length of the connection of a buckle and a tongue, by dispensing with a lockup member as in a conventional tongue and enabling the insertion and engagement of the whole tongue in the buckle. CONSTITUTION:A coupling device J is composed of a buckle 10, which is secured on a vehicle body, and a tongue 12, which is attached to the end of a seat belt. The tongue 12 is provided with a belt anchoring hole 16 and shaped almost as an obloneg. A lockup recess 17 is provided on the center of the upper part of the tongue 12 so that the lockup member 26 of the buckle 10 is can be removably engaged in the lockup recess. The buckle 10 is composed of a main body 19, a pushbutton 20 and a cover 21. When the tongue 12 is pushed into the insertion opening 14 of the buckle 10, the lockup member 26 is pushed up against a spring 27 and then dropped into the lockup recess 17 to lock up the tongue. To unlock the tongue, the pushbutton 20 is pushed up against the spring 27.
