Abstract

A device is provided for cutting e.g. reels of sub-standard paper for subsequent reclamation of the paper. In the device a knife holder (12) fitted with a knife (21) is movably mounted in a knife beam (10). The knife holder and the knife are moved periodically transversely thereof to and fro in the plane of the knife so that the cutting edge of the knife periodically cuts into and recedes from the paper. A roller assembly is also provided in which two rollers, one on each side of the knife, are rotatable in opposite directions to bear on the paper to be cut and tension the paper as it is being cut. <IMAGE>
