Abstract
The locking member 20 of a steering column lock is retained in its releasing position until withdrawal of the key and this is achieved by retaining means in the form of a spring 31, 32 mounted in a recess 33 in the locking member and carrying a projection 30 that projects through an opening 35 in the locking member and engages the barrel 18 of the lock (which is axially movable) to hold the locking member 20 retracted until the barrel moves clear. A second end 40 of this same spring 32 can be used to form the spring that urges the locking member 20 into its locking position and thereby eliminate the need for a separate spring for that purpose. The locking member can have a pivot 23 midway along its length and formed by integral coaxial pegs, with the spring formed by a coil spring mounted on one of the pegs and having oppositely directed limbs 31, 40. <IMAGE>
