Abstract

1430440 Locking cycle wheels GKNSTENMAN AB 4 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972 24 Aug 1973] 56211/73 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A locking device for locking a spoked cycle wheel carried in a two-pronged fork 3, 4 comprises a housing 5 mountable on prong 3, locking pin receiving means 9 mountable on prong 4, a lock lever 7 mounted on the housing 5 at a pivot 6 and having a locking pin 14 movably mounted in a bore therein, and a lock 12 adapted to move the pin 14 when operated by a key 11 at one end of the bore. The lever 7 is movable relative to the housing, in use, between a release position (shown dotted) in which the wheel is free to rotate and a locking position (in full lines) in which the pin 14 is aligned with its receiving means 9 for operation of the lock 12 so that the pin 14 is moved to protrude from the other end of the bore into means 9 where it is retained by engagement of a spring-actuated detent 13 in a recess of the wall of the bore. When locked, a protrusion 7a on the lever 7 abuts member 5b of the housing 5 and portion 7b of the lever abuts the edges of wall 5a of the housing, such that the locked lever is retained in position even if the pivot 6 is removed. In another form (Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown)), the locking pin (14<SP>1</SP>) and lock (12<SP>1</SP>) are coaxial and interengaging cams and grooves are carried by the bore (20<SP>1</SP>) and lock respectively to effect movement of the pin when the lock is operated. In both embodiments, the housing and pin receiving means are preferably secured such as by welding to their respective fork prongs.
