Abstract

A vent valve in a hydraulic system comprises a ball valve member 45 which co-operates in turn with an inlet seat 40 and an outlet seat 36, together with a ball check valve member 55 which is spring-biased against a further valve seat 49 downstream of the seat 36 to prevent air from flowing in a reverse direction back into the system. The ball 45 is lifted from the seat 40 when the system is initially pressurized, to allow the escape of air or gas, and is urged against the seat 36 by the hydraulic fluid after the gas has been expelled. <IMAGE>
