Abstract

An automatic train protection (A.T.P.) system comprises a fail-safe A.T.P. channel and a non-fail-safe A.T.P. channel, each separately responsive to maximum speed limit signals transmitted to a train by a track circuit. A number of alternative speed limits are possible and each is indicated by a respective modulation frequency of a track circuit carrier frequency. Since A.T.P. equipment may detect several modulation frequencies leading to danger, the non-fail-safe channel includes mixed modulation detecting means to detect the presence of more than one speed limit modulation frequency, and to inhibit the non-fail-safe channel output signal causing the train's braking system to be operated. <IMAGE>
