Abstract
An aquaculture tank comprises a vessel 1 of circular cross-section in a horizontal plane which is divided into a series of annular concentric compartments 5, 6, 7 of increasing volume in the radially outward direction. Water supply nozzles 12 create, in use of the tank, a flow of water having at least a component of velocity in a circumferential direction in each compartment. A first fish barrier 20, 21, 22 is arranged across each of the compartments to prevent fish swimming complete circuits around the compartments. Second fish barriers 29, 30 31 are suspended in the compartments 5, 6, 7, respectively, from an arm 26 which is rotatable about a shaft 27 for the purpose of moving the barriers 29-31 around the compartments in the direction of the circumferential water flow component to trap the fish in small sectors of the compartments between the two fish barriers. Removable partitions 14, 15 facilitate transfer of trapped fish from one compartment to another. Means may be provided for grading the fish according to size before transferring them from one compartment to another. <IMAGE>
