Abstract

A tapered split element e.g. sleeve (5) positioned between an axle (2) and a wheel (4) secures the wheel to the axle when the wheel is moved towards the end 5a of the element e.g. by nut 5b or by a nut abutting one end of the element and threadedly engaging a thread on the wheel. The element may be of C-shape perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. In a modification of the illustrated arrangement a nut screw threadingly engaged with the wheel is employed to release the wheel from wedging engagement with the tapered element. <IMAGE>
