Abstract
A fuel pumping apparatus comprises a pump barrel 17 which defines a bore 19 accommodating a reciprocable plunger 20. A housing part 12 is provided which is held in sealing engagement with the barrel 17 and in which there is formed a first passage 36 through which fuel flows from the pumping chamber defined in part by the bore 19, to an outlet and a second passage 55 formed in the housing part 12 and through which fuel can be spilled from the pumping chamber under the control of a valve means including a valve member 50 slidable within a bore 47. The valve member 50 is resiliently biased open and closed electromagnetically. <IMAGE>
