Abstract

A machine, such as a gas compressor, comprises a chamber defined by a cylinder (4) and two side blocks (5, 6). A rotor (7) is mounted in the chamber. Vanes (12) are slidably mounted in radial slots (11) in the rotor. A housing (2) surrounds the chamber. Lubricant is fed to the chamber from a reservoir in the housing pressurised by the high- pressure working fluid. Dynamic pressurising of the lubricant between the end walls of the chamber and the adjacent side faces of the rotor is promoted by recesses (13) formed in the said end walls or side faces. <IMAGE>
